selected podcasts & videos on the departure of G+

First, the commentary you may not have heard via Listen Notes:
Google Plus in Podcasts: a look back

Meanwhile, there are some good YouTube videos, too. This clever piece is from SAMTIME:

 (From the video above: 😉)
Hi! I'm Sam Tucker from Google and it's with a heavy heart that today we're announcing that we will be shutting down Google Plus. Now I know this may come as a shock from a company with experience with other social networks like Orkut but it just felt that people weren't getting the value from our platform anymore. In fact our studies showed that ninety percent of visits were over in less than five seconds! To be honest it probably would have been a hundred percent except people didn't realize that they could skip before that.

We're not entirely sure why people didn't use the platform. I mean we forced them to as you remember. We made everyone who was on YouTube sign up for the service and the reason we did that is because we felt the YouTube community was the best one to showcase the more advanced commenting system that came with Google Plus. And I tell you what, it really allowed people to express themselves in new and exciting ways. It was a real ride! Oh, I mean riot.

Can we cross that one out? Don't worry about it! Anyway as it turns out we just didn't have what it took to compete with the big boys. I mean yes, we did have the processing power, the technicians, expertise, reach, money--my god a lot of money! But like I said we were just outplayed by the big boys like MySpace. That's right we were out last by MySpace! That one really stings! Can you delete them from my circle? Thank you!

And okay, I should also mention that we may have also leaked half a million of our users data. But come on. You should know from our phones that we're not good at keeping information private! Geez! In fact we leaked your information a good Google pixel three years ago. Don't worry we didn't leak your private messages! It was just information like name, email, occupation and gender and age nickname and birth date relationship status and finally where you've worked and where you've lived.

Luckily though, this only affected users who actually had enough time to fill in this information. So apologies to all the workers at Bing. Speaking of workplaces we figured this major security flaw was a great opportunity to now market Google+ as a secure enterprise social network so our users won't only lose their privacy but quite a lot of money as well.
Hey at least you're guaranteed to get less emails than LinkedIn! The all new Google -. To stop the leak that happened three years ago we're shutting things down...

Oh, by the way, don't forget we're releasing a new phone tomorrow! So look forward to the apology for that.
