So I suppose I'd better mention where I'm headed after here! I've tried out several of the alternatives and I believe Diaspora is the best fit so far(1). Certainly one of the federated platforms anyway, you might prefer the interface of Friendica or Hubzilla, but they can all connect to each other. There's a lot of ex-plussers over on the Pluspora pod (currently over 11,000 people, and just one of many Diaspora pods) and for the most part everyone seems like a friendly bunch. Is it me, or does Mark Weinstein not know how to promote MeWe? So MeWe exceeds 4m users. I'm happy for MeWe, because it's promising. However, Mark is still on his "free speech" spiel. He's still talking up MeWe in ways that is important, but secondary, to users. Anyone here could surmise that the real reason MeWe is gaining steam is due to the massive amount of advertisement on Google Plus, which is closing. People here are looking for something suitable and similar. So you'd think MeWe would promote whatever makes MeWe appeal to Google Plus. They have, with the Google Plus migrator. Which is good, I commend them. So then why does Mark, and MeWe to a lesser extent, still advertise in a way that is liable to turn off a large amount of people??? G+ death might spur much needed innovation, but right now it really sucks. Moderators: I hope this does not rub anyone the wrong way, I will gladly disable comments if you so desire. It is rather clear to me that FB will soon be the past, it might remain as ubiquitous as e-mail but just as e-mail it will be something we suffer through not a place we just visit for fun. Google likely saw the writing on the wall and, instead of migrating its aging platform into the future, decided to avoid all of the growing pains that the mere idea of social media is undergoing at the moment. As platforms become larger their influence in society grows with them, the need for censorship, editorializing, and just plain policing grows with them.
