DO NOT NEGATIVELY COMMENT ON THREADS WHERE PEOPLE ARE ANNOUNCING THEIR DESTINATIONS, NO MATTER WHAT YOU THINK OF THE SITE THEY ARE MOVING TO. I have started removing comments, I'll start to ban/block soon. If someone has made a decision and is announcing that decision, the time for discussion or persuasion is over. Wish them well, wish them good luck, don't say anything negative about the site they choose or the person for choosing it. If you want to Private Message the person, off the community, and explain your point of view, that's up to you . Here, we respect people's choices. If someone says they are going to move to FaceBook, I consider that a major mistake, but I will not say that in their Signal Flare message and I will not try to change their mind after they have announced their plans. Be civil and allow people to make their own choices or leave the community because we don't need badgering of people who are announcing their final destinations. I hope thi...

Why the MeWe App is/was missing from the Apple Store, quoted from the MeWe CEO. (Missing Emojis) UPDATE: New "Search" Live Next Week on MeWe's iOS App Hey Awesome Members! I know there are still questions going around about MeWe's iOS App - which is back in the Apple Store as of 3 days ago after a brief hiatus. Previously I wrote to you all that we were harassed by Apple two weeks ago for protecting our members by blurring NSFW pics - giving our members a warning and letting you click through the warning only if you chose to. Well strangely that "click" option violated Apple's rules and they took us out of the store. They kept us out of the store for more than a week while they gave us bizarre BS reason after reason every time we resubmitted. So we finally wrote to Tim Cook about Apple's unfair aggressive tactics against MeWe. After all, we do exactly what Tim says the world needs - a social network that protects people's privacy and never targe...

Because of a massive influx of people to the community we have been forced to enable Hold For Review on new member posts. • Do not be alarmed if your post is held for review. We are not censoring for bias, rather attempting to keep the amount of repeated content to a minimum. • This community is an order of magnitude larger than was originally scoped for, as a result, we do not have enough mods. If you wish to become a mod, contact me privately. • There is a lot of information available in links on the left side of this comment. Please consider consulting these links before asking a question. In particular, the FAQs (both mini and normal size) contain most answers to questions we've been seeing from newcomers. • We're more or less done with the research phase. At this point, there isn't time to investigate some new site or offering. The spreadsheet of options exists and the owner of that spreadsheet takes requests for additions. The wiki is a wiki. Aside from that, your...

I can no longer remain quiet regarding MeWe.

I can no longer remain quiet regarding MeWe. After much thought and some very long nights of research, I can no longer silently suggest MeWe as a viable option for migration. My silence may have previously been considered support for the platform, but there are three considerations that forced me to make an active stand: 1. Many people from here are migrating there ( based on polling data. ) This means it's my duty to inform you that I think this is not a good idea. 2. I have interviewed numerous people who have used it. I have yet to have a positive review from these random samplings. 3. As a private, for-profit company, their loss of an app on the Apple App Store is a very significant sign that they are in trouble and that their life cycle is coming to an end. I can go into more details to specific questions asked in the comments, but I can no longer silently accept that the site would self correct if enough people migrated there. It's my conclusion that the monetizatio...

A side project to save Google+ in the Internet Archive. Please respond in the comments if you fit the following description: • Want to help preserve Google+ in the Internet Archive • Have a computer with both spare CPUs and Bandwidth • Are comfortable communicating by IRC (if you have to ask what that is, then it's not you) • Like secret projects that aren't really so secret

Google+ Mass Migration short FAQ -- version 1.1 Dec 20, 2018

Google+ Mass Migration short FAQ -- version 1.1 Dec 20, 2018 Q: When is Google+ shutting down? A: April of 2019. Four months earlier than originally announced. March 7, 2019 for Google+ APIs , including Google+ Sign-in and integrations for web & mobile apps . https://www.blog.google/technology/safety-security/expediting-changes-google-plus/ https://developers.google.com/+/api-shutdown Q: Where should I go? A: There is no single answer! This community can help you chose where to go, but you decide what fits best. Where your personal contacts go matters most. Major alternatives are listed here: https://social.antefriguserat.de/index.php/Established_G%2B_Exodus_Communities Q How do I know where people are going? A: Some have used this form: https://goo.gl/forms/EnkYfrY9HYKkr7iy2 The results are posted here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GYSUTGpmz-2trxhvNyEv_rnNF1GvEf4OW0Lct7KxEiY Others are using #SignalFlare posts, and #googleplus and #gplusrefugee hashtags on thei...

Here are the poll results regarding where people are planning to go.

Here are the poll results regarding where people are planning to go. The poll is closed. I'll make some observations in the comments.

Damn it. (And YES, please use Google Takeout [https://takeout.google.com/] RIGHT NOW.)

Damn it. (And YES, please use Google Takeout [ https://takeout.google.com/ ] RIGHT NOW .) In addition, we have also decided to accelerate the sunsetting of consumer Google+ from August 2019 to April 2019. ...we will continue to provide users with additional information, including ways they can safely and securely download and migrate their data. https://www.blog.google/technology/safety-security/expediting-changes-google-plus/

Google TAKEOUT now.

Google TAKEOUT now. You should probably be doing a Google Takeout once a month. Just FYI, the format of the data keeps changing. We have people tracking this, but since Google is modifying what data is included and moving it around, you may want earlier or later copies. If you have the hard drive space, keep them with dates so you can refer back to older copies when you get a chance. The reason this is important is because all this data will most likely be gone after the close Google+. You'll probably have no way to look it up and if you ever wanted to migrate, this is the only way. We are currently recommending JSON as the format to take out in, but that might change. You can't really go wrong with JSON, as it ports easily to other formats... and programmers like to use this format. Questions? Ask in the comments. https://takeout.google.com/settings/takeout

Google replacing Google+ sharing in the wild

Google replacing Google+ sharing in the wild YouTube just added YouTube messaging for sharing. You can ignore this video, it was just a way for me to access the link. Obviously it's in Google's best interest to replace any location where you could previously G+ share with something new. So have you tried the YouTube messaging? What do you think to far? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPpInGffxgM&feature=share

The link contains interesting comments intended to get the Google+ Help community into a collaborative situation for mutual benefit. It didn't go over well and was removed from that community. The link exists in "limbo" where you can view it only if you have this link. It will not appear in a stream unless shared. I'm speaking with moderators and leaders there to see if bridges can be created. This will take time. https://plus.google.com/103416921442200060388/posts/6ZxwvPjkQK3

FYI for anyone complaining about the lack of public posts on MeWe, this is from the CEO, who is doing an AMA on Reddit: Q: Will public posts on MeWe be indexable and searchable by outside search engines such as Google? If so, will the results from a search be able to directly link to individual posts? Or will non-MeWe members have to sign up to see them? A: We're working on this - in V1 in late 2018 they will not be, we want to make sure we get the open post model perfect for our members and their followers/profiles. In V2 which we expect early in 2019, we expect them to be indexable and searchable and visible. Most importantly we are committed to protecting our members and their data, so we are carefully exploring how best to do this. Which is what I tried to explain to some asshole on here the other week. The official release notes haven't referenced this, but the developers over there have been hinting that true public posts, versus "open posts" visible to everyone...

Open Question: Should you delete your Google+ account when you leave?

Open Question: Should you delete your Google+ account when you leave? • It deletes your posts and comments so others can't see them. This can be both good and bad. • No way to follow you through the end of life of Google+ if you delete the account. • Might feel good to just do it, you know, because: f*ck the man. • Any community you own may be in jeopardy. (Depends on factors.) Comments welcomed. Discuss.
