Most of us realize the notification widget is gone. We can still access notifications via "notifications" on our profile. I investigated to ascertain if this was limited in any way. After going approximately four weeks back, notifications state I'm at the end. Thus, notifications only go back a month for me.

#signalflare My Migration story, some thanks, and thoughts of two social sites I seriously considered. I found out about the sunsetting a few weeks later than many back in October 2018. I had been away and when I came back, I hadn't been online more than a day when I found out G+ was sunsetting by August 2019 I had my reservations immediately about features that would continue working, but when the powers that be chopped the time frame down by several months to April, it was a kick in the face. Anyway, at the outset, I had several friends telling me to migrate to MeWe. Wow, I thought, this was unexpected. How could these friends choose a new home in the span of the two weeks I was offline? Though I had full trust in these friends, I wanted to do my own vetting for the members of my communities, and the so many others I have made friends with on the Plus. To be frank, my main concern was focused on the community aspect. Members and friends needed some easy layman's informati...

So G+ consumer is shutting down, yet our Gmail accounts will remain. Obviously, no matter how hard one tries, they'll sooner or later be forced in one way or another to support massive companies like Google. I simply don't see any way around it. This got me thinking about shutting down G+ consumer version as a cost vs benefits issue. G+ shuts down vs Google still retaining a majority of emails where they can basically get whatever usage they need from the accounts themselves, without having to continue putting money into the consumer site. Am I wrong? Am I simplifying this, or something? Let me know your thoughts.

I recently joined Youme.social and had some basic questions I wanted answered. To my delight, +Jamez Frondeskias replied and fully put my mind at ease as to what Youme is, what it hopes to become, and how it will function. I will add, that out of all the sites I've investigated, this one looks and functions the most like G+. Do also note, YouMe is a startup, but a startup with a bright future. It is doing a lot of things right! It'll be a member driven site with the hopes many check it out and contribute with helping it succeed. In all, the site sells itself as a viable G+ alternative. It's a bit of a pity so many of us are choosing different sites to suit our needs. It's also quite apparent there's any number of new offerings popping up enticing us to join. As many of us can't join them all, I'll ask if anyone can: to create a short list of features of a particular site they are familiar with, maybe a couple pros/cons etc. Nothing too long, and in layman's terms. It's not that I'm lazy with my own research, it's more about getting an unbiased synopsis of a social site from members already there using it. Is this one of many popular forms social media may take in the future? Interest based social media experience has been around for awhile. Groups, forums, communities etc. What new avenues do you see opening for interest based social media experiences (that can possibly be scaled?). I had this site recently advertise in The Google Plus Meetup on Facebook. I'm told they are out of the Beta Phase and are now accepting membership. Although I'm encouraged by another alternative, I'm hesitant to supply credit card info during signup...especially for a site that claims the fist 6 months are free and will only charge after this expires. Anyway, not sure if this site has been discussed here or not...or if any are actually members. If you have more personal information to add about the site, please do for the benefit of the rest of us. Not sure if this has been shared here yet, but I read each of the 250 descriptions and found it somewhat useful to see what's out there. I only found out last night Google is shutting the door. Too bad, I really invested in this site and made many great friends. Anyway, due to owning several communities here, having many friends, acquaintances and so on, I created a Google Meetup Group on Facebook. It's for anyone needing a place to land, advertise, talk about what's next etc. It doesn't matter if one plans to go to MeWe or another site, having a stable meetup group on G+ should help as things wind down and members/friends need a place to find out what's happening. I'll promote it more in the next few months to get the word around.
