weco.io just appeared on my radar.

weco.io just appeared on my radar. They charge montly and user base is small -- how can any social network charge and remain inclusive? or even grow? How can any social network NOT charge and preserve user sanctity? If anyone has familiarity with weco, please comment? Thanks

When we consider new homes, where social capital is generally quite low - where we don't know anyone and they don't know us; we have to anticipate that the process of creating the happy place we have had on G+ will not come overnight. I have tried to kick around some reasons for that in the linked wordpress posting. Originally shared by Cade Johnson some thoughts on how communities bank "goodwill" and how this might affect social networks. I think G+ has no measure of the social capital present here. Value which will be largely destroyed. https://cadejohnson3.wordpress.com/2018/11/19/social-capital-and-social-networks/

I have opened an account at https://steemit.com/@cade.johnson On arrival there one is made strongly aware of the focus on monetization of content. Not being particularly interested in that aspect is simplifying in a way - I can ignore about 80% of the content. Promotion of photography posts seems to occupy much of the remaining bandwidth. There are, as far as I have been able to ascertain, no news services posting there. A couple of topics which I personally follow - offgrid living and artificial intelligence, don't make their list of "all tags". So I am mildly discouraged, but only beginning. If anyone else is there, please advise me here or on steemit so we can share notes. http://Steemit.com

I have joined both pluspora and mewe.

I have joined both pluspora and mewe. Because the pluspora "pod" has recently and suddenly been flooded with G+ refugees, I would say the overall quality of posters and content there is excellent. The "stream" is everything anyone posts , and not the sort of thing you'd likely follow in the long term - as a few thousand G+ folks have arrived in the past day the "stream" is filling with purveyors of their photographic efforts (not a major focus of mine), and memes; but it is possible both to follow individuals like a circle, and hashtags marking topics; and thus avoid the uninteresting bits. A group could choose their own obscure hashtag and exchange posts that would not come to the attention of most users unaware of the hashtag (though all their posts would be viewable by anyone in the main stream). The community is too small to attract spam so far. Pluspora is part of a larger diaspora.org project and there are other pods. One can add contacts from o...
