#signalflare Originally shared by Michael K Johnson The posts from this community are now live at https://forum.makerforums.info/c/electronics/beagleboard — Please log in "with Google" (see below) and you'll own all the content on that site that you posted here; just use the same google account to authenticate with makerforums that you did when you posted here. There are lots of other maker-related areas there, some of which are already beagle-related. Thing-Printer is already there at https://forum.makerforums.info/c/3d-printing/thing-printer with plenty of Replicape / Redeem / Revolve content, and Curtis Olson's autopilot development on beagle is in DIY UAVs at https://forum.makerforums.info/c/vehicles/diy-uav Thanks Jason Kridner for being up for a new adventure on a new site by makers for makers, and looking forward to seeing you all there!

#signalflare Originally shared by Michael K Johnson With kind permission from community moderator Jason Kridner, I plan to port the content of this community to https://forum.makerforums.info later this week. This community will continue there, as it has here, to augment rather than replace the beagleboard google group. If you log in "with Google" (see below) either now or after the import completes, you will be recognized as owning the content that you wrote here, and be able to edit or even delete it, just like you can here on Google+. Existing conversations can be continued there. If you browse makerforums now, you might recognize some of the other related communities that have already been ported — almost 50,000 G+ posts have been imported already. Welcome to your new home!

#signalflare Originally shared by Michael K Johnson At Arthur Wolf's request, this community has been ported to https://forum.makerforums.info/c/controllers/smoothie The old conversations can be continued after Google+ disappears, and new conversations can start. Welcome to Makerforums! By logging in using the same account you used to log in to Google+, you will be authenticated as owning your imported content, and still be able to modify it.

#signalflare The HercuLien and Eustathios community has moved to https://forum.makerforums.info Originally shared by Michael K Johnson Import complete! https://forum.makerforums.info is our new home! Just go to forum.makerforums.info and log in using the same google account you use with G+, and you should own and be able to edit all the content you wrote here that has been ported there. (After you do that once, you can add another authentication method, you don't have to stick with Google. That's just what lets us know who you are!) If you have any problems authenticating with forum.makerforums.info please feel free to plus-mention me in a comment on this post and I can investigate, as can Anthony Bolgar The content was up-to-date as of two days ago when I did the final import of content from this group.¹ Further content on this G+ group, including this post, and including any new comments on existing posts, will not be ported to makerforums! This import was a...

#signalflare At Claudio Prezzi's request, the LaserWeb community has moved to https://forum.makerforums.info along with years of useful content. Originally shared by Michael K Johnson Time to move to makerforums! Your posts are now live at https://forum.makerforums.info/c/laserweb-cncweb and ready to continue the conversation there. This is a one-time migration; new posts or comments will not be imported to makerforums. This is now the time to move. Log in at makerforums with "using Google" and you'll own all your ported content. If you have trouble getting login to work, just plus-mention me and/or Anthony Bolgar for help migrating over. https://forum.makerforums.info/c/laserweb-cncweb

#signalflare The R7 CNC router community has moved to https://forum.makerforums.info Originally shared by Michael K Johnson Time to move conversation to makerforums This community has been moved to https://forum.makerforums.info/c/cnc-routers/r7 — so any new posts or comments here won't be included in our historical record. Remember, log in at makerforums using the "use Google" button and the same account you use to log into Google+ now, and you will own the content you wrote here. See you there! https://forum.makerforums.info/c/cnc-routers/r7

#signalflare The OX CNC router community has moved to https://forum.makerforums.info along with years of content. Originally shared by Michael K Johnson Time to move to makerforums! Porting complete! This community has been ported to https://forum.makerforums.info/c/cnc-routers/ox — Thanks Anthony Bolgar for hosting! Just log in by clicking the "using Google" button with the same account you use to log into Google+ and you'll be recognized as owning all the content you wrote here! This is a one-shot migration, so this post, other new posts, and other comments won't make it to makerforums. https://forum.makerforums.info/c/cnc-routers/ox

#signalflare The K40 Laser community has moved from Google+ to makerforums, bringing its content along with it. Originally shared by Michael K Johnson This community's history has been ported to makerforums! This community has been ported to https://forum.makerforums.info/c/k40 — Thanks Anthony Bolgar for hosting! Just log in by clicking the "using Google" button with the same account you use to log into Google+ and you'll be recognized as owning all the content you wrote here! (Note that if you posted videos directly to Google+ they are not included in the import. To make them available on makerforums, post the videos to youtube, vimeo, or another video-sharing site and edit your post on makerforums to reference that video.) This is a one-shot migration of content from about a week ago, so this post, other new posts, and other comments won't make it to makerforums. https://forum.makerforums.info/c/k40

#signalflare The DIY CNC community has migrated to https://forum.makerforums.info Originally shared by Michael K Johnson This community, minus the tons of spam, has been ported to makerforums. Log into https://forum.makerforums.info/c/cnc-routers/DIY "with Google" using the same account you use for Google+ and you'll own all your content and be able to keep the conversation going — including past conversations! And you'll be able to stay connected to other maker communities there. If you are a spammer, you will find your account permanently blocked on makerforums. I might have missed one or two spammers in cleaning out the spam, but most of it is gone. With the spam out of the way, there's lots of interesting history there!

#signalflare The 3D Printing community has moved to https://forum.makerforums.info along with years of useful, helpful content and discussion. Content owners can log in with their Google account to identify themselves, and continue to manage their own content. Originally shared by Michael K Johnson This community is live on makerforums! I have finished the import process from this community to https://forum.makerforums.info/c/3d-printing — go continue our conversations there! Use the "with Google" button (see below) to log in with the same account you have used to log in here in G+, and you'll still own your content. The conversations can continue. You'll have to get used to at-mentioning people (like almost everywhere else) instead of plus-mentioning them like you have here. You can also associate your login with other email addresses, and you can set up username/password accounts, including with two-factor authentication. You aren't tied to Googl...

#signalflare Originally shared by Eugene Crosser With G+ going under, I've mostly moved to pluspora, with a view to eventually run an own pod. The primary point of contact has always been, and continues to be, http://www.average.org/~crosser/ Of other distributed "social media" technologies, the one that looks "right" is XEP-0060, but the only existing client, movim, does not seem to be developing in the right direction. Usenet is mostly abandoned by developers, so for the time being, diaspora it is. https://pluspora.com/people/820e9690b216013620c800505608f9fe

Migrating communities from Google+ to Discourse

Migrating communities from Google+ to Discourse I wrote an import script to move Google+ content into Discourse, and used it to import about a dozen Google+ communities into the forum.makerforums.info Discourse instance. Feel free to look at that site to see what the import looks like, and to join if you are a maker! Importing Friends+Me into Discourse preserves both Google login and community content with continued ownership of that content in the new community for users who choose google login to their Discourse forum as at least one authentication method. For more information, see the original request for this functionality at https://meta.discourse.org/t/bounty-google-private-communities-export-screenscraper-importer/108029 and ask questions there so that they survive the gpluscalypse. [Updated 7 March to reflect current status.] https://meta.discourse.org/t/bounty-google-private-communities-export-screenscraper-importer/108029/11

Migrating communities from Google+ to Discourse

Migrating communities from Google+ to Discourse I wrote an import script to move Google+ content into Discourse. It is working in my development environment, and I'll be offering it in a PR to Discourse. Importing Friends+Me (perhaps also the eventual Google Community Takeout format?) into Discourse will be able to preserve both Google login and community content with continued ownership of that content in the new community for users who choose google login to their Discourse forum as at least one authentication method. ~I have been hacking away at an importer for several maker communities moving to forum.makerforums.info and there's also a bounty that a professional Discourse developer might be interested in, so between us it is likely to happen. Don't count on me (this is my first exposure to Ruby) but feel free to sweeten the bounty pot at https://meta.discourse.org/t/bounty-google-private-communities-export-screenscraper-importer/108029/11 if you want to make a profe...
