Welcome to the Widget Watch...

Welcome to the Widget Watch... Originally shared by Michael Fenichel Check Your Calendars If you're reading this and don't know.... "Welcome to Google+, enjoy your stay." For anyone still here, who has lived in this wonderful community over the past 8 years, trusting that "don't be evil" Google would never callously or malevolently disrupt the way of life and vitality of its own community - much less destroy it altogether, with ever-decreasing notice and ever-increasing collateral damage, such as wiping out years of lives & data. The widget is going-going-gone, maybe by the time this is read, if it is read. The site is still up and - for the fist time in 8 years "they" are right - it's a ghost town! #thisisevil #googleplusRIP #googlepluswidget #gplusrefugees #socialmedia

Well worth following

Well worth following Originally shared by Filip H.F. “FiXato” Slagter Google+ Exodus Collection If you want to follow just my posts about the shutdown of Google+, my ongoing development of the Plexodus-Tools set of export / migration utilities, and other news related to the Google+ Exodus, but aren't interested in my other content such as my photography and multimedia interests, you can either follow my account and unfollow individual Collections, or solely follow my Google+ Exodus Collection. :) Since it's at 1936 followers, I'm kinda curious if we can reach 2000 before this place is torched to the ground. ;) #Plexodus #Google #GooglePlus #GPlus #GooglePlusExodus #GooglePlusShutdown #Goofle #2April2019 #FollowFriday #ShamelessPlug #MassMigration #SocialMedia

The founder of Minds.com, Bill Ottoman, explains the genesis of his site, censorship (and the whack-a-mole outcome), free speech, hate speech, challenges facing social media today, comparison between Minds and other social media sites, and the new framework of peer-to-peer (Web 3) to avoid government censorship. Even if you are not into Minds.com, this discussion will help make you aware of the various environments the social media sites create and their varied solutions to the challenges that face all social media. From the link below: One of the questions for Bill Ottman, the Co-Founder and CEO of Minds: Do you have any advice to share with other entrepreneurs with regards to growing a brand or business? Build something that puts equal attention into your philosophy and principles (eg transparency, privacy, free speech) while simultaneously hitting the human nature nerve (eg. incentives rewards, viral reach). Keep the branding clean and open for evolution. We have made a few small pivots and that wouldn’t be possible without a brand/domain that was too limited in language. Control your tools. Use as much open source software as possible and don’t cave to the convenience temptation for aspects of the product that matter. For instance, everyone who used Facebook login on their apps just decimated their user’s privacy in the recent hack of 50m accounts. Reliance on major tech companies for your infrastructure is high-risk. October 30, 2018 https://masur.com/lawtalk/bill-ottman-co-founder-ceo-of-m...

The uncensored, free speech social media platform known as Minds.com has adopted a bill of rights.

The uncensored, free speech social media platform known as Minds.com has adopted a bill of rights. Minds is an alternative site to Google+ that provides a similar experience but is open source. Developers are working on adding features. Your real name is not required to open a Minds account. Only an email address is required. Minds is officially adopting the Manila Principles On Intermediary Liability, a digital bill of rights, outlined by the Electronic Frontier Foundation and other leading digital rights organizations. The principles have been endorsed by nearly 300 leading press freedom and technology policy organizations and individuals. They act as a guideline for protecting freedom of expression and create an open environment for innovation. It is our hope to create a network effect of companies and organizations adopting the principles to further Internet freedom globally. The Manila Principles On Intermediary Liability 1. Intermediaries should be shielded from liability for...

VIDEO (54 mins) — MeWe CEO specifying all the little details.

Originally shared by Hugo Diaz VIDEO (54 mins) — MeWe CEO specifying all the little details. I've seen a lot of people talking about MeWe, so I figured I'd put this link here, since it's got a little more than 350 views and it's the MeWe CEO talking about the platform, in-depth. This top link is cued on YouTube at 31m56s where he specifies the main commitment to users… CUED LINK (at 31m 56s) --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rlz3Up3dt2c&t=31m56s During the whole video he talks about competitors (Facebook, etc) and what the hidden problems are with the people that favor marketing without telling people about it — which is DIFFERENT than his philosophy for MeWe, in his words, which basically is that PRIVACY IS IMPORTANT. The Search for a new Social media platform:

The Search for a new Social media platform: As Google+ will stop existing for private persons within the next 10 months, my search for a new online "home"continues. MeWe is an alternative more and more people talks about. Here is an interesting post from Hugo Diaz which is worth to take a closer look at. The complete interview is worth to listen to, because it gives a glipmpse of insight regarding the founders thoughts about privacy and social media online. May this be a real alternative to the FB world and a good alternative to Gplus? Listen , and think about the founders points and point of view regarding these topics and questions. Google+ sunsets in August 2019.

Google+ sunsets in August 2019. Many Google+ers have gone to MeWe. You might be considering it too. Here's a MeWe sample account page. MeWe charges monthly for storage over 8GB. MeWe reminds me of Facebook. It has a feature that allows you to create private groups. If you post a lot of content, to remain a free MeWe user you'll have to delete content before it reaches 8GB of storage or pay a monthly storage fee (see attachment on fees). #GooglePlusMigration #MeWe #GooglePlusAlternative #Alternative #SocialMedia

I decided to try http://www.Minds.com as a replacement for Google+.

I decided to try http://www.Minds.com as a replacement for Google+. To my surprise I found a very similar Google+ experience on Minds. I don't care about earning money for content, so I am ignoring that and using Minds like I would Google+. I still set up my Minds wallet because it seemed to be a requirement. I can't imagine social media without gifs...it's my passion. Minds accepts my gifs which tend to be large in size. Pluspora did not. Pluspora also abbreviated the posts so you had to click on 'Show More' to see the whole post. Minds does not do that. Minds allow you to edit your post. Pluspora did not. It's more like Google+. At Minds, you set up your profile (Channel). As I understand it, you won't see your friends' posts unless you subscribe to their channel. They will need to subscribe to your channel too. Put hashtags in your post for wider distribution in searches. #GooglePlusReplacement #Minds #SocialMedia
