And so I face the final curtain...

And so I face the final curtain... #SignalFlare Originally shared by Michael Warburton And now, the end is near... The death knell sounds for Google+; It's just a few days left before the end. So I suppose I'd better mention where I'm headed after here! I've tried out several of the alternatives and I believe Diaspora is the best fit so far(1). Certainly one of the federated platforms anyway, you might prefer the interface of Friendica or Hubzilla, but they can all connect to each other. There's a lot of ex-plussers over on the Pluspora pod (currently over 11,000 people, and just one of many Diaspora pods) and for the most part everyone seems like a friendly bunch. If you're on one of the federated platforms, hit me up at raithmir@diasp.org! https://diasp.org/people/fe6ed440ae0601361656047d7b62795e (1) I'm also now trying out OpenBook, I got in on the alpha which is a mobile app only at this stage. So the OpenBook alpha launched today. It's a mobile app only at the moment with the website version available when it launches properly hopefully. The app shows promise, but a little buggy so far. Certainly the Android version anyway, which annoyingly exits the app if you hit your phone's back button. Hey it's still an alpha version after all. There seem to be a bunch of friendly folks onboard already. I created a community over there for Plus refugees, so I could see how communities work over there. /c/plusrefugees I'm @MichaelW over there. Come say hello if you're on OpenBook already!

My initial thoughts on Diaspora and Friendica after two days

My initial thoughts on Diaspora and Friendica after two days Joined the diasp.org node for Diaspora, and Nerdica node for Friendica. They both seem like they're one of the largest for each network. I've posted a couple of posts on both. Diaspora I immediately preferred the interface. I wish I could edit posts, and like individual comments, and some form of communities would be nice (but I don't currently use those all that much on Google+ personally). On both posts I've had several people interact straight away, and all seemed friendly! Friendica seems much more confusing to figure out the interface, and just seems a bit buggy, hanging when trying to load things. Maybe that's just the Nerdica node being a bit flakey at the moment, I don't know. Took me a while to figure out how to upload an image to a post, because yeah it's totally intuitive to need to click on the tab called "browse" to upload images. I've also had zero interaction on the po...
