I travel among the ghosts.

I travel among the ghosts. Interesting. As a G Suite owner, I continue to explore and wander among the G+ remains. This is weird and unexpected. Google Graveyard lists Google's abandoned products. Some live on with truncated features or with Linux variations, which Google never supported. Thanks to Julian Bond for this resource, which was brought to this zombie's attention over on Facebook's " Google Plus Meetup " (requires Facebook sign-in).

Another farewell posted 5 min. before the end... Originally shared by Carter Gibson I'm writing this knowing it will be my last post on Google+ From the day I was invited to the beta, I spent a lot of time trying to explain what drew me to this platform to others. Sometimes I'd do that to laughs. Other times to people who were genuinely curious. Every time people were legitimately dumbstruck that this platform could have so much influence on my life. From my journey here as a humble college student to a writer with over 1.2M followers to the Program Manager in charge of this platform's community and content, I've learned so much, had an incredible time along the way, and got to for some lifelong connections. This post won't be another post trying to convince anyone why Google+ was worthwhile - or even ahead of its time. This will be a post about how much I appreciated the time we all spent here. Google+ as a College Student Google+ came out while I was senior in col...

Google+ was not perfect, at least it wasn't in 2017 when this was first posted.

Google+ was not perfect , at least it wasn't in 2017 when this was first posted. As we move on, remembering G+ as the best of social media, we should also be aware that we who loved G+ were not reluctant to critique the platform! Originally shared by Jean-Loup Rebours-Smith Some thoughts on the current state of Google+ (and why it's not too late to fix things) I've been doing this a couple of times in the past and seeing how there are a few users recently who seems to have blown off the lid of the steamer with their frustrations about G+, I thought I would offer some thoughts of my own with trying to put an emphasis on what I think could work to improve things. Also before anyone points this out to me, much of what I'm going to outline is currently worked on in one form or another. Problems Different people will have different views on this so bear with me if your important issue isn't listed. I'm going to outline what I think are serious issues which are putti...

Jean-Loup, you speak my language! Many here may agree.

Jean-Loup, you speak my language! Many here may agree. Originally shared by Jean-Loup Rebours-Smith Bye G+, I wish you'd loved us as much as we loved you Since everyone is making the rounds with their final parting words to this community which will be joining the rest of the apps and services that Google has thrown in the dumpster without a second thought tomorrow, I figured I'd get things off my chest one last time. I joined as early as 1 July 2011 having obtained an invitation from someone on Twitter with much buzz and excitement following my first (and likely last) Google I/O in May that same year. A project not only put together by Google but helmed by none other than Vic Gundotra whose passion for the project was motivation enough to be part of something which was destined to become huge and groundbreaking, or so we thought. The truth is, in as much as I was more than happy to dump Facebook and fully embrace G+ (I recall moving all my pictures from over there...

Surprise! Alois Bělaška has just updated Google+ Exporter to version 1.8.5

Surprise! Alois Bělaška has just updated Google+ Exporter to version 1.8.5 Google+ evidently will not be able to just throw a switch and disable all of G+ all at once. Ghost traces of your presence may linger awhile. (Don't count on this. Export your material today.) I have sent invitations to the owners of this blog to continue their posts on [ https://gplusmigration.blogspot.com/ ] Use the comment form there to let me know if you would like this opportunity, too. Please read the Guidelines first [ https://gplusmigration.blogspot.com/2019/03/post.html ] Thanks! Takeout and Exporter buttons on gplusmigration will be moved or removed on 2 April. https://gplusmigration.blogspot.com/2019/03/post.html

A contact form for this purpose and others is under the "hamburger" icon on the archival site. I have never done this before and don't know how guest posting would work, but would be willing to try this for owners/mods and frequent posters in this G+MM Community. Blogger could in this way function (clumsily) as a tiny Community with limited participation, but with universal public viewing and feedback via the contact form. https://gplusmigration.blogspot.com/

On 30 March Alois Bělaška posted the latest version of Google+ Exporter [ https://gplus-exporter.friendsplus.me ] version 1.8.4 The link below provides instructions on how to use it, plus this contrast with Google Takeout: "Whats the difference between this tool’s backup and the official Google’s data download files? "Google+ Exporter tool exports ALL your posts (profiles, pages, collections, and communities) including comments and transforms them into a well-documented structure and prepares import files for your Wordpress blog. (You can choose files prepared for Blogger or JSON files, as well. The default is Wordpress. Be sure to download files in your preferred format!) "On the other hand, Google Takeout is not documented at all, terribly structured, hard to transform to any reasonable import for other services and with no support from Google at all." In an effort to get some of this Communities original categories to display, I am adding hashtags to the comments on some of your posts, such as #ConsiderationsAndFeatures. I am also adding #SignalFlare. I do not know whether the new hashtags in comments will display as Labels in [ https://gplusmigration.blogspot.com/ ] but will give it a try. What I have noticed on our archival site is that the more than 400 posts with the Edward Morbius label display, while labels with fewer posts pertaining to Community categories do not. Mystery!

Updates thru 20 March to [ https://gplusmigration.blogspot.com/ ] include addition of tabs. Some tabs lead off site. The auto labeling software results will have to be heavily edited. Several folks, for instance, have not always tagged their relocations with #SignalFlare. (Me, too.) Labels for Community divisions were not picked up. Some of the tabbed resources are incomplete or not current. As always, suggestions welcome!

Thanks to all of you who have shared your advice here as we collectively transition into the next phase of our shared experiences. The discussions have been enlightening for me. My grandfather, Earl J. Arnold, passed down a favorite quote which I have found helpful while considering my options. I would like to share it with you. (Ready or not....!) A little perspective from the Victorian era: [Thoughts for Every-day Living from the Spoken and Written Words of Maltbie Davenport Babcock Author Maltbie Davenport Babcock Publisher C. Scribner's sons, 1901]

Updated!

Updated! & new theme! I have downloaded recent posts, changed to a newer, more mobile friendly theme and added a banner. Next is some sort of landing page... Archived in Blogger Posts prior to 3 March 2019 in G+ Mass Migration have been downloaded via Google+ Exporter and archived at [ https://gplusmigration.blogspot.com/ ] No attempt has been made to index or organize, but you can get easy access to the information using "Search this Blog" and the labels. I have not resized images to fit or done any of the "finishing touches" I would do for one of my other blogs. I think there are over 1,000 posts going back to the beginning of the community, but I have not confirmed that figure. At least some comments have been included. You can comment further on each post if you wish. Comments will be moderated through Blogger. Post anonymously or identify yourself in the text of the comment. (Not as slick as G+!) This is offered to you as a learning resource and should...
