The official European Union account moves to youme.social!

The official European Union account moves to youme.social! That's a huge success for Jamez Frondeskias! Originally shared by European Union Time to move to a new location Our final post on Google+ We have been on Google+ since late 2011 and its been a great site to share news and information on the European Union. However like everything, it is now a time to change where we will be located due to Google+ shutting down. We looked at three potential homes, these being MeWe, Pluspora and YouMe Social. The criteria we used was the ability for people to view the content both within the site as well as outside, the general political stance of the site itself, the ability to establish collections and communities [or similar], the location of the site, the potential to expand our followers within the European Union etc. After assessing all three sites, we ruled out US based MeWe despite having about 50,000 Google+ members due to its location, its restriction on public viewing of our conte...

Cynically, Google is now adding features. 😤

This is worth considering.

This is worth considering. Originally shared by Alexander Vollmer Dead and missing peoples profiles Please, if you have a R.I.P. circle, go to archive.org - Internet Archive and search for those profiles, that forces archive.org to make a copy of that profile and keep it as a "memento mori". With Google deleting the "digital grave" they would vanish otherwise. That would be more than sad, like destroying a grave. We should give those people an act of respect and remembrance and 'bury' them inside the Internet Archive. Even if you only suspect that they are gone. http://archive.org

Verdict: Google has to read e-mails sent to the address in their website imprint.

Verdict: Google has to read e-mails sent to the address in their website imprint. Google two days ago retreated from fighting a German verdict that said they have to actually read e-mails sent to the address they provide in their website's imprint. Until recently, people writing to that address just got an automated reply which told them to use other means to contact the internet giant. Well, these days are over. About contacts.

About contacts. Is there a way to automatically "harvest" the profile IDs (or even more) of people I interact with here on G+? I am talking of: - people in my circles - people following me or collections of mine - people in my communities - people in communities I'm in or was in - people I've discussed or interacted with in some respect The best would be some kind of AI automatically harvesting their #SignalFlare info. ;-) Any ideas?

Think about this.

Think about this. Originally shared by Isaac Kuo Say no thanks to MeWe I do not understand the enthusiasm with which many users being abandoned by a "good" corporation's closed garden are running toward a newbie startup corporation's closed garden. Oh sure - a startup promises everything and seems very responsive to the customers. They all do. They're not being funded by the customers, they're being funded by VC cash. They try to lock you in while they can, so they can extract value from you later. This is what always happens, because sooner or later the VC's always want their money back and then some (a LOT some). And you know what? MeWe is going to fail. I mean...there's a small chance it won't, but most startups fail. From the VC's perspective, that's just the price of doing business. Most investments fail, but you get a big payoff from the one that doesn't. That's cool for the VC's, but what good is it for the end users? F...

Go for it, Tim!

Go for it, Tim! Originally shared by Gideon Rosenblatt Tim Berners-Lee (founder of the web) has created code to import Google+ Takeout data into Solid. My recommendation is don't use this yet as it's still rough. I'm posting this here simply to draw attention to the fact that there may be some solutions underway for doing something interesting with your Google+ data after the shutdown. Stay tuned. I will post updates in this new collection. https://github.com/solid/solid-takeout-import
