Would you be against mandatory Covid-19 vaccines?
from Quora 23 August 2020:
Raleigh,
Mandatory Covid-19 vaccines are like other mandatory practices, such as (in the USA) driving on the right and stopping at red lights. There are certain rules of society that must be observed by all if mutual survival is the goal.
Expect the usual haphazard pattern of mandates in the US. [1][2]
“… It is decided at various levels of the government, including the individual states.”[3]
In the US, if you are a member of certain groups, you may be exempt. If you are attending a public school, you probably will be required to be vaccinated.
This sometimes means that certain diseases, measles,[4] for instance, run rampant among populations that have not been vaccinated.
One minor little detail: As of August 2020, we have no safe, effective Covid-19 vaccine approved for distribution.

Emirey,
Yes.
For the facts, see the HSS site on vaccines[1] or consult your local health authorities. Do not take the social media gossip on this subject at face value. It’s worthless.

Gautam,
Maybe. It would probably mimic immunity achieved by having the disease itself.[1]
Sometimes.[2] It depends on the vaccine.

I answer questions with footnotes as often as possible. If I do not know the answer or if other Qourans have already provided adequate, footnoted answers I generally pass on the question, upvoting the best answers and sometimes thanking those who take the time to answer in detail. Opinion questions or questions asking me to volunteer personal information are often not answered. My political and other opinions are well known on the internet.
Denizhan,
From NewScientist, 12 August 2020:
“The vaccine would be administered in two shots, 21 days apart. Both shots contain modified adenoviruses, which would ordinarily cause a common cold. Both have been given the gene for the spike protein from the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. This protein allows the virus to enter human cells. In theory, this should prime the immune system for an encounter with the actual coronavirus.
“Known as a viral vector, this is a fairly standard approach to a vaccine, and other groups are pursuing similar methods.”[1]
On 27 Aug 2020, it was reported that Putin “said one of his daughters has already been vaccinated, developed antibodies and is feeling well, but Russian authorities offered no scientific evidence to prove these claims.” [2] So far I have found no claim that Putin himself has been vaccinated.
