FYI for anyone complaining about the lack of public posts on MeWe, this is from the CEO, who is doing an AMA on Reddit:
Q: Will public posts on MeWe be indexable and searchable by outside search engines such as Google? If so, will the results from a search be able to directly link to individual posts? Or will non-MeWe members have to sign up to see them?
A: We're working on this - in V1 in late 2018 they will not be, we want to make sure we get the open post model perfect for our members and their followers/profiles. In V2 which we expect early in 2019, we expect them to be indexable and searchable and visible. Most importantly we are committed to protecting our members and their data, so we are carefully exploring how best to do this.
Which is what I tried to explain to some asshole on here the other week. The official release notes haven't referenced this, but the developers over there have been hinting that true public posts, versus "open posts" visible to everyone with an account, were potentially on the horizon.
Eat it, suckah! :P
Also,
Q: Are you planning on adding features similar to the Circles and Collections features Google+ has?
A: Yes we are. Later in 2018 we expect to roll out smaller circles for members to communicate with specific subsets of their contacts; and while we've got a pretty good hashtag system already built into MeWe for sorting and organizing topics, threads and conversations, we are going to make some sweet enhancements to that too. Thanks for asking, we know how important these are for our new G+ members coming over.

Wonder if "others" understand what we mean by G+ collections?
ReplyDeleteChristian Nalletamby A developer on another social media platform? Yes.
ReplyDeleteThis is great news! 👍
ReplyDeleteWhat I want to know is whether they will say no thanks to Nazis, when the locusts eventually reach them, having gotten every other platform they land on taken offline...
ReplyDeleteAndreas Geisler It has come to my understanding that Mewe is rather well moderated, so I think its safe to use, for now that is.
ReplyDeleteAnton A Also, MeWe focuses on privacy rather than the dog whistle of freedom of speech...
ReplyDeleteAnd right now, the Nazis are converging on Minds.
Andreas Geisler I've heard that, I'm curious how Minds will deal with that problem.
ReplyDeleteWhere is this AMA happening? I've been trying to locate it.
ReplyDeleteWe can no longer tolerate those who spread hate against the corporations that own the internet.

Not convinced, but thanks for the AMA link.
ReplyDeleteNor I, and I am somewhat distressed at how religious people are becoming over their preferred landing zones.
ReplyDeleteTed Ewen For fairly obvious reasons: network effects.
ReplyDeleteEdward Morbius Thanks! That's ... a pretty good answer.
ReplyDeleteI already did report someone for being deliberately disruptive in a chat, and they are in fact gone... so that's a good sign.
Ted Ewen so long as it's not Minds!
ReplyDeleteI am experimenting with Pluspora but note the velocity of subscriber growth has slowed to a crawl.
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice Diaspora pod, but my gut says Pluspora will be a footnote when history of G+ out migration is written.
Hubzilla looks very good on paper, but absent an easy way to get started that foes not require guru level skille, Hubzilla will not take off.
MeWe is centralized and can be shut down as easily as G+. Note: I do not mind paying for a useful social network. We pay with our personal data and attention on FB and G+ and Twitter.
Christian Nalletamby I still don't understand what we mean by G+ Collections! Google certainly did nothing to explain the idea, so I stuck with my Communities and didn't explore further.
ReplyDeleteI'm still looking at both MeWe and Pluspora. Meanwhile, I have signed up on Reddit, though the experience isn't remotely the same. I'm also on Quora, though I realize I've not seen a lot of e-mail notifications from them lately. (Then again, I have those sent to my secondary account, which I don't check as frequently.)

To create a collection on MeWe:
ReplyDeleteCreate a group, make guests "limited", so they can comment, but not post.
Call your groupe "Coll: Something", so people get it is a collection.
