Google replacing Google+ sharing in the wild

Google replacing Google+ sharing in the wild

YouTube just added YouTube messaging for sharing. You can ignore this video, it was just a way for me to access the link. Obviously it's in Google's best interest to replace any location where you could previously G+ share with something new.

So have you tried the YouTube messaging?

What do you think to far?

  1. They've also added business messaging to Google Maps I believe. Haven't tried it yet.

  2. There are multiple issues with this offering:

    1) It can be discontinued anytime totally on the whim of Alphabet
    2) most social media posts have nothing to do with video
    3) moderation of YT threads is almost non existent and documented to be a major fake news source impacting not just the US but the world

    Thanks but no thanks

  3. Michael Warburton Interesting!

If you spot more sharing where Google+ used to exist as the sharing model, please post here!

  4. Shelenn Ayres No, this isn't the commenting system, it's new, it's like a chat next to the videos. Opt in, direct to people you invite.

It's clearly a new feature, just found it this morning.

  5. So that's why they want me to upgrade yt.

  6. In addition, as of today (11/16/2018), Google has removed the ability to share photos directly from Google Photos to G+, although you can still use it to share to FB, via email, etc. Specific photos can still be shared via posts, by selecting the camera icon at the bottom of the post window (This applies to desktop computers; I haven't been able to test on mobile yet). So it looks like the promised dismantling of the Plus has begun in earnest.

  7. Pat Kight Sigh. I should create a new section for missing/replaced features.

Oh wait, we already have one. Thanks mods!

  8. Just what we need. Another Google messaging system.

  9. Pat Kight but you can still upload a photo to Google plus which is at Google photos, in my case by the way I can still share from g-photos to g-plus.

  10. Not quite sure if it's the same as you mean, but for quite more than a year now you have been able to share videos directly with a list of friends, complete with a separate comments list: https://youtube.googleblog.com/2017/08/introducing-new-way-to-share-youtube.html

  11. Filip H.F. Slagter No, this was an alert box pop up that showed me (on my browser) a new button for adding friends for conversations. It's opt-in chat AND they are 100% using both my Google+ contact list and my gmail to seed possible friends.

I put in a friend I want to be linked and they get an offer to reply. If the accept then I get a (currently bad) chat window. The fact that they are pulling from my Google+ circles is telling, however.

  12. John Lewis Again, most social media posts have nothing to do with videos. YT is notorious for fake news because of inadequate moderation - I don't trust or expect that to change.

  13. Shelenn Ayres You're missing the point... they added simple chat windows for friends. Completely opt-in. It's NOT the commenting system that's already in place. It's more like pop-up chat.

  14. John Lewis and it will not be moderated so if someone activates it they will be subject to harassment etc without moderation. Even if there is a history I have no confidence in appropriate action being taken by Alphabet. No one is going to change my mind about evidence from objective observations over the past few years in G+ and YT. I am divesting from all Google services eventually.

  15. Just tested: I still can/could if I should choose to do so share Google foto albums to G+ (Android 8, apps up to date).

  16. Shelenn Ayres It doesn't need to be moderated... you have to choose who you chat with and they have to agree to chat back...

Honestly, I don't think you are understanding. It's actually similar to chat in Hearthstone, now that I think about it.

    Random people can't chat you.

  17. John Lewis indeed. Person A tried to "friend" me a few days ago on YouTube. I rejected the request. That simple.

  18. John Lewis no interest in messaging (i use wire with trusted people) but that has zero to do with a replacement social media ;)

  19. Add to this wonderful gem that you apparently have top-level text posts on YouTube now, and it gets pretty idiotic pretty fast...

  20. In 2020 youtube will become a major outreach platform for me, just in terms of posting text that gives book references and teaching, meaning classical Buddhist stuff.

I have conversed with several people over at youtube, one a Scotswoman and one an Asian student [ location unknown ], and some others, probably Chinese, across the Pacific.
And posted key references for tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands to see [ per post ].

The Scotswoman was in Edinburgh. We were both attending a live youtube video with a Tibetan Kagyu lineage holder, H.H. Seventeenth Karmapa Urgyen Trinley Dorje.
In the chat I gave her the url link to free massive highest quality teaching resources by another major teacher, Great Abbot / Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche.
The Scotswoman was very happy, and so are some others in the same kind of use case [ online live video chats ].

I am a direct tantric student of both HE Thrangu Rinpoche and HH Seventeenth Karmapa.
And HE Thrangu Rinpoche is the primary teacher to HH Karmapa.
Yet this woman obviously did not know about the Thrangu Rinpoche teaching resources, which EVERY Kagyu student should use and propagate.

I have as of today posted word of G+ migration to 'three point five million' people on this platform. [ Of course, the actual engagement is far smaller. ]

I have also done the majority of all Buddhist teaching on this platform over the last thirty four months, far more than eighty percent.
More like ninety five percent of the total. That's a conservative figure.
In front of some 'four point one million' people.
Nobody else was doing that work. Most Buddhists are deficient in communication and social skills.
Like basically all software engineers, only far far worse.

Losing this platform is a miserable effing disaster to the max.
    On so many levels.

Communication is always of highest importance.
Sadly, very very few people have any idea how to do it.
I see that all the time.
My seventh grade English teacher in Cincinnati Ohio would be shocked, along with pretty much all the kids of that year.
These are truly barbaric times, and getting worse.

And now we are going to see free speech crushed more and more.
I work on that dominating civilizational crisis too, a whole lot.

Anyway, you asked a question and I provided a concrete answer.
Have been doing youtube posting and chat, and will do tons more.

Am also a huge fan of Tessa / Meekakitty and shared her Wizard Love video about fifty times.
That helped quadruple the original video view count to several million.
And of course, I have the Gryffindor tie and scarf.
Being Druid class [ very very rare ] I also need to get the torc.

I suppose I will post Wizard Love a couple more times in 2019 before the platform shuts down.
Anything Harry Potter or wizardly drives the Muslims nuts.
And that of course is reason enough!

The thing to do in life is to Wrock on.
People just need to learn how to get into wizard rock. . .and other forms of magic. Now you know.
