Hello All.

Hello All.

We are considering upgrading our G+ Data Importer which would allow us to pull your Takeout export directly from your Google Drive account. Currently you have to download the zip file and upload it into our importer.

This would mean there would never be memory issues and you can do it directly from your phone. EVERYBODY could then, at the very least, have a place to store their G+ Data before the shutdown.

However this is no small effort and will take us several days to build. With G+ shutting down in short order we want to see if there is still demand for this type of importer or if we will be spinning our wheels. Let us know please. Maybe give us some +1s or leave other comments if there is still that need and demand.

Thanks.

Here is our current importer which works just fine as well.

  1. Question: does your import save all privacy settings? Or is the whole thing password-locked once created?

  4. Todd Hawk I think creating a tool to import data from Google Drive, or another cloud, is a pretty good idea.
I wonder only in what format should we download data from Google+ – to be imported properly into Lifecloud?

  5. Mariusz Rozpędek We have already created one import tool that I included in my original post. That version currently works fine for most. You need to do the export in JSON which is explained in the instructions. Thanks.

  6. Documents in Google Drive can be accessed via public links if needed, so a simple "fetch this from here" should be sufficient? On the desktop there's the excellent Google+ Exporter already which even creates various formats (which look more useful than Google's Takeout format, more shame on you Google).

  7. M Mallory if you want you can give it a try with the current importer attached above. Just please be sure to follow the instructions exactly.....especially about the JSON format. Thanks.

  9. Todd Hawk Yes, I will try later. I did already get the data. It's in a zip file though.I did on desktop.

  10. Todd Hawk I'd very much encourage you to do this as mobile, metered-bandwidth, unreliable-connection, and large-community users have very few export/import options otherwise presently.

If you can create a G+ Data Takeout Archive or Friends+ Me Google+ Exporter archive, and download that to a desktop system, you're in good shape. But if you cannot, for cost, bandwidth, or technical reasons, you're kind of up brown creek.

There are a few server-only migration options. One of the best of those, Romain Viallard's Firebase script, is no longer usable as of today, as it relied on G+ APIs, now retired.

There are a few other options, including PASHpost, WikiFactory, and a few others. Another alternative would be nice to have.
