How to make the JSON takeouts into something readable by humans ?
I'm looking for tools to preview the content of my Google takeouts (json) locally, since I haven't done a full export using the supposedly more reliable F+M exporter.
If such tools don't exist, should I just create an HTML takout ?
I don't know what to do with these json exports that doesn't involve uploading somewhere else

While it isn't specific for Google Takeouts, the `jq` commandline tool is excellent for parsing and filtering JSON data in general: github.com - jq
ReplyDeleteMy own #PlexodusTools also makes use of this. I'll continue to develop PlexodusTools after the #GooglePlusShutdown, so feel free to follow the development of the project at https://github.com/FiXato/Plexodus-Tools
I posted about 3 days ago how I use the JSON files with a text editor to trim the files down by half or more. Once I dump what I don’t want I’ve got nice text content I can copy/paste or pretty up with WORD. You can see my samples there.

ReplyDeleteI found the Jason export to be almost as bad as the HTML one. If you put together a local Wordpress instance, you might find tools that can import the Jason format.
I installed one in my instance, but I had already committed to the Wordpress backup format, so I did not try it.
Goops, wrong link. I meant to put the one from this community. It has a more relevant comment section.

Oy, you Git! Don't get your pie-thongs in a bunch, or I'll zip over in a Gif'fy to Bash your Head in with my root to fisk up your day.
ReplyDeleteI hope this is AWKward enough for you to realise I'm taking the PisS 😏
(I already hate myself for pronouncing Graphics Image Format there as 'jif', no matter if its creator claims that's the way it should be pronounced.)
