Most of us realize the notification widget is gone.

Most of us realize the notification widget is gone.
We can still access notifications via "notifications" on our profile.

I investigated to ascertain if this was limited in any way.

After going approximately four weeks back, notifications state I'm at the end.
Thus, notifications only go back a month for me.

  1. Grace Monte de Ramos Heh...Google keeps telling us...move along please..we don't want you ;)

  2. That's largely always been the case. Notifications aren't a full history.

(They may have been very early in G+, but certainly not for many years.)

  3. On the other hand, the notifications on my Android phone (which still has the bell) are up-to-date, even if the G+ app itself died yesterday. Crazy Google.

  4. Looks like 2 1/2 weeks or so for me.

  5. Strangely Edward Morbius I was trying to match up a PP I created to someone with my notifications.

My PP was well over a month ago, and is not on my personal feed anymore. I then checked notifications as the person had commented less than a few weeks ago, and it also was not there.

  7. The only way you'd have a full history would be if you had email notifications enabled, and had not deleted the email messages.

  8. Julie Wills Who could have foreseen there would be negative consequences for not signing up for notification emails! I'm glad I did now, but it was not because I anticipated these circumstances. Just by chance.

I seem to make choices without understanding the consequences more often in the online environment than offline. My intuition seems not to be serving me well here. Or maybe it's not well supported by the software. Is it just me? I wonder.

  9. There are ways to search for private posts. It is not the most obvious of approaches, though.

... and if you happen to use the Friends+Me exporter, it handles private posts.

  10. Walter Roberson Is this the exporter to which you refer? I noticed the option, but did not select it as I have the emails.
    medium.com - Google Plus Exporter – Medium

  11. Jeff Diver yes that one. I happened to have filed all of my direct messages into a Collection which made it easy for me to find then in the exports. I can see from the summary output of that product that it is able to detect and export direct messages, but I have not had reason to locate them scattered in the exports.

But this does not have to do with the G+ search directives that can be used to locate direct messages. I would have to Re investigate those.

  12. al m Also, I think you can search for posts specifically to you, or at least mentioning you. Also date-ranged search, which is hugely useful, and from:
