The death knell sounds for Google+; It's just a few days left before the end. So I suppose I'd better mention where I'm headed after here!

I've tried out several of the alternatives and I believe Diaspora is the best fit so far(1). Certainly one of the federated platforms anyway, you might prefer the interface of Friendica or Hubzilla, but they can all connect to each other. There's a lot of ex-plussers over on the Pluspora pod (currently over 11,000 people, and just one of many Diaspora pods) and for the most part everyone seems like a friendly bunch.
