Did Google remove JSON option from Community Takeout?
We're migrating or ceramic 3d printing community this Monday and I was double checking the Google Takeout process to see if it still worked as during our testing. To my surprise the tool looks updated but there is NO MORE option to export community posts as JSON. The option is greyed out... Is anyone else seeing this? Maybe this has to do with the upcoming ‘beginning of March’ improved community take out features?
At the moment, you only get the oversight data, and yes, you get your own postings in the Stream takeout in the format you have chosen there.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious how that will look like when they finally allow community owners to take out their entire community.
Bernd Paysan I used to be able few weeks ago to get the posts list for communities (basically a list of URL's) as a JSON file, not anymore now.
ReplyDeleteBernd Paysan by that time, the options will probably be:
ReplyDelete- punched cards
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Microsoft HTML
If they were trying to annoy people they couldn’t do better.
Jose Pina Coelho punchcards would be sweet :)
ReplyDeleteDries Verbruggen Checked, yes, you select JSON, it' comes out as HTML. Fortunately, it is really just a list of tags, so parsing it is not an issue.
ReplyDeleteActually, in my G+ importer in net2o, I don't even bother to look at that part, because the postings themselves (in the Stream takeout) have the community in their data, so I just import the postings, and build the list of community postings out of those.
I hope when community owners can import whole communities, those full postings can be taken out as the same JSON as normal Stream postings.
Err. What you've highlighted is the output option for posts, not for communities. And it's greyed because you haven't selected G+Stream Posts for Takeout, only Communities. Community oversight is still available as JSON and that's what you have selected.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the UI does seem to have changed since last time I looked.
Julian Bond It's in Dutch but shouldn't be too difficult to decipher. At the top it says Options for Google+ Communities. One month ago with the exact same procedure I was able to export the community 'Posts' as JSON. As mentioned above "Posts' in a community takeout is a list to all the posts by all members but it’s just links to these posts on their personal streams. But it's a useful starting point to get extract all the posts.
ReplyDeleteDries Verbruggen clearly you’ve never seen UTF converted to EBCDIC...
ReplyDeleteDries Verbruggen Yes, you're right. I misunderstood what I was looking at.
ReplyDeleteI tried to do a takeout yesterday and couldn't figure out the new UI, text is clipped and I can't tell what the buttons do
ReplyDeleteDries Verbruggen The GDT UI appears to be changing. I was just going to note that.
ReplyDeletePosts in JSON format remain available as of a few moments ago.
Edward Morbius Don't make the same mistake I did.
ReplyDeletehttps://takeout.google.com/settings/takeout/custom/plus_communities
"Posts: Google+ posts in public communities" are only available in HTML at the moment and only contain links to the content.
This is different from https://takeout.google.com/settings/takeout/custom/stream
where posts are available in JSON or HTML
