One seriously motivating factor for me to work on this was that not only does Discourse enable google auth as an option, but also I was able to make it so that people still are recognized as owning their content by merely logging into Discourse "with Google" — this doesn't give the forum any access to the google account, it just authenticates to the forum that you are the same person and still own the content.
