Tipua (ancient New Zealand words - "unexpected" "spirit")
https://www.tipua.com
This week the Australian photographer Chris Sutton launched a new social media site: Tipua. Not only does this site promise to be good for photography and art, or just staying in touch - Chris has also written about making the site a cooperative - a radical departure at a time when corporate greed and advertisers are stifling creativity and initiative.
Chris has also said that, while photography will be a significant element of the site, there are no restrictions on joining. He has said that the key requirement for anyone joining the site is that members are civil to and respectful of each other.
Having explored the alternatives, examined the arguments put forward in the forum (for which i give thanks), and having written extensively on the anti-trust aspects of the existing market and the emerging contenders for the Australian Risk Policy Institute (which is lobbying government on anti-trust issues in the social media market), i have decided to join Tipua.
This has been a difficult decision based not on transitory issues of connectivity, service claims on scalability, use of color in banners or political association - but on the core issue of ownership. A formal cooperative leaves individual or corporate ownership for dead. This is the one issue that has brought us to this point.
