So, it has been almost 2 months, since the time of migrating to MeWe.

So, it has been almost 2 months, since the time of migrating to MeWe. There are some decent people on the site. However, there are those from Google Plus on MeWe, that have massive egos. When saying that, I noticed that it tends to be some of the self-published authors, who don't want to help support other authors.

They believe that visiting another blogger/writer's website and blogs is "stealing traffic" from their group pages. Mind you, some of these same authors I speak of know NOTHING about font style or how to read a blog on Blogger. Yes, these people speak English.

Judging from their appearance, they seem to be mostly self-published authors in their 50's and older, who are not tech savvy. I'm in my mid-30's and I'm not the most tech savvy either, but I know how to navigate a website and how to read a blog. Because they're too incompetent, they want to patronize me about how to arrange my Blogger page, that they DON'T want to visit anyway because of fear of their group pages' traffic being "stolen."

Meanwhile, there seems to be more people from Google Plus, who either want to spam other users with group page invitations for everything, or randomly friend collecting like we're on Facebook. Most of the random friend collectors I keep getting are men old enough to be my father or grandfather. That's besides mostly being men who served in the army, navy, marines, etc.

Speaking of some of these men, there was a rude and self-entitled combat soldier on MeWe, who had to be put on block because he was determined to do online dating. It was already in my profile that I was NOT INTERESTED in dating but he felt, that I SHOULD friend him because I am a WOMAN. The more I kept declining his friend request, the more he kept re-sending it, which was another reason why he ended up on my block list.

I'm all for supporting those, who have fought to keep America safe, but I'm trying to generate fans interested in music, animation, reading blogs, and Horror fans.

The last 3 weeks, I have already been on the fence about MeWe. What other social media sites have you joined in replacement of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Google Plus?

Comments

  1. I’ve encountered the same catfish here on G+.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Is it more user friendly, too? MeWe looks like Facebook and Google Plus combined to 1 site. It has multiple chat features. There are group page chats and personal chats like we have on Facebook. However, most people I keep encountering on MeWe don't resonate with me.

It seems like more from Google Plus are migrating there to friend collect, especially after I posted on my Google Plus Profile, that I joined MeWe.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Linda Tewes which kind? The friend collectors or the self-entitled military men, that expect you to respond back to and online date them because you're a woman?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Anna H. The guys who claim they are in the military and can’t take no for an answer.

Here on G+ if you do a comment search on their name you’ll find they’re hitting on several women at once.

Its particularly funny when they post their phone number asking you to contact them on Hangouts then you can ask him by name if any of his other marks have fallen for con.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Ah, I see. I never had that problem on Google Plus. Earlier this morning on MeWe was the first time for me. He looked like he may be in his 20's. I quit dating 12 years ago and haven't been interested in dating, since my 20's.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Anna H. On an actual dating site for mature adults, I had to explain to a young pup that I’m not a cougar and he has nothing I’m interested in.

But it was all about him. How he’s into older women. Never mind that I’m not interested in boys young enough to be my grandsons if I had gotten pregnant at 16.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'm in my mid-30's and I'm not interested in dating anymore college aged man-children. Been there, done that 12-15 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Anna H. I got a decade or two on you. I’m looking off and on but I’d like my own generation, please.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I find the only way to cope is to concentrate on the people who build you up, work with you, welcome you ... and try to tune out the others. They don't care what you think and won't change what they do so it's a waste of time arguing with them.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Pluspora is one of the many hubs that make up Diaspora, and it was set up by two G+ers a short while back, though Diaspora itself predates Google, and Google ripped off some of its ideas when building G+.

So Google Diaspora if you want to know more. It's like your G+ feed but without Communities and Collections. Circles are called Aspects and #hashtags are used a lot.

When it was announced that G+ would be shutting down, several thousand of us signed up to Pluspora. It's easy enough to use that I learned how to use it in a day or so.

There are no Groups like on MeWe, and if you want to chat (or group chat) you need to use an XMPP client, but that's easy to install and set up.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Garry Knight Sounds too techie even for my taste :-D

    ReplyDelete
  12. Anna H. Seems we don't have too many options but that's disappointing to hear those about MeWe. I'll personally go with Ello and Artstation to post my work (I'm into Photography and Illustration). As far as I know, Ello is also good for authors. Besides there are lots of authors on Twitter who support each other much better than photographers do.

"music, animation, reading blogs, and Horror fans" -- they are LOT of those in both Ello and Twitter.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Kerem Go I did Twitter and deleted my account after 2 months of joining last summer. Twitter is too politically divisive like Facebook. Everybody and their damn pets have to rant about Trump.

Meanwile, literary agents and book publishers only care about scoring their next book deal. They don't genuinely care about authors or bloggers having our own websites and blogs. It's all about scoring their next book deal and raking in some dough.

Also, instead of being able to immediately follow someone like we can on Google Plus, you have to REQUEST to follow someone like it's a friend request.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Linda Tewes I know exactly what you mean.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Anna H. You're far too tolerant. Block them at the first offence. There is no excuse for such behaviour so get rid of them as fast as possible.

I moderate some communities here on G+ and I had to be put on "Ask for invitation" because of the spam, porn, and other crap. So it's common no matter where you go. 🙁

So block them at the first offence. It may seem harsh but your sanity will thank you later.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Bill Pusztai exactly. At the same time, there seems to be more friend collectors on my end of MeWe than anything. They're not interested in similar things as me. Also, some of the UK men can be extremely rude and trollish.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Shawn H Corey I had to block and unfriend a few 2 weeks ago because they wanted to treat Mewe like it was a porn sharing site.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anna H. I think the distance makes them bolder than they would be IRL.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Garry Knight is Pluspora less confusing than here? Joining Google Plus 3 years ago was confusing. It still is confusing now.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Kerem Go You’re going to have to be more techie to understand your options.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anna H. Of several alternatives, Diaspora does not (yet) have a hard block, though you can "ignore" someone, which keeps them from commenting on your own posts or DMing you. Other Fediverse options may. Pity as I'm otherwise partial to it.

I've also adopted the "block early and often" strategy, which does much for what's left of my sanity.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anna H. It didn't seem confusing to me, a few weeks ago. I just signed up for an account, uploaded an avatar picture, filled in my Profile, then made a #newhere post to introduce myself. From then on, it's been about as simple as it can be. When I've needed help with something, I just put the #help hashtag at the start of the post, and help comes pretty quickly.

It doesn't take much to sign up and see what you think of it.

I should also point out that if you get pestered by older men, you can Ignore them but not block them completely, and I guess that might put you off. But most of the people I've come across are just sharing photos, interesting articles, music and videos, and so on. Pretty harmless.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah, having a excellent blocker helps a lot. That's a major positive regarding MeWe. Its blocker is a lot like Facebook's.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Here's what the help pages say about ignoring a person on Diaspora:

"If you are currently sharing with that person, removing them from your aspects will stop many of their posts from appearing in your stream. A more complete method is to “ignore” that account. This will prevent any of their posts from appearing in your stream, and they will no longer be able to like or comment on your posts. They will, however, still be able to reshare your posts, comment on reshares of your posts, and their comments on posts by other people which appear in your stream will still be visible to you."

    (Aspects are like G+ Circles.)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Garry Knight luckily, I don't have a bunch of photos clogging up my news feed. You can only like and share so much after getting tired of it. Personally, I don't care that much about photos whether on or offline. That's the biggest problem I've been dealing with over these last 5 years.

People care more about pictures than actually reading text, which really got on my nerves after a while on Google Plus. Someone clicking the +1 on my Google Plus share is not generating traffic to my website or blogs. Comments generate the most traffic on websites.

    ReplyDelete
  26. All true, Anna H. but there's room on Pluspora for everyone, as there is on G+ (for a while, at least)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Garry Knight that feature sounds more like a double edged sword. Even after ignoring them, they can always create another account to harass the person, who tried blocking them.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anna H. There are numerous Diaspora pods, some with stricter admin policies. Admins can block specific other pods or users.

Pluspora has an active moderator teaam.

    ReplyDelete
  29. How hostile are some of the moderators and users? I tend to have the worst luck on social media sites. Some are rude and trollish. Then, the rest are indifferent to my content.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anna H. Pluspora have been excellent. I've seen a few problems elsewhere, nothing major.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Linda Tewes Exactly, which can also be really scary.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Edward Morbius does Pluspora have a normal size font? MeWe's font size is somewhat microscopic on my laptop and I don't use a small resolution either.

    ReplyDelete
  33. If you're looking for a platform with the same features as Google Plus, I suggest trying Hubzilla. It has communities, collections and hastags. I personally don't see trolls as a big problem to be honest. That's why they invented the "block" function for.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Is Hubzilla better organized than Google Plus? How is its navigation and interface.

    ReplyDelete
  35. When G+ sent people to MeWe, they didn't always send their best . . . though some (I assume - like me) are nice people.

    Sorry, had to say it

    ReplyDelete
  36. I learned about MeWe through a friend on here, who has her own Google Plus community page.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Cade Johnson G+ didn’t send anyone anywhere. They just said we can’t stay here.

    ReplyDelete
  38. yeah, but then it wouldn't sound like the Trump quote about Mexico . . . I guess it didn't anyway :(

    ReplyDelete
  39. Holger Jakobs MeWe has actually been around for the last several years. Therefore, it's not like it was invented and launched over night. More than anything, the indifference and massive egos from some on MeWe, who are originally from Google Plus are my main problems.

Honestly, I legitimately hate social media but it's the only way for me to get my content exposure.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Anna H. Honestly, I legitimately hate social media but it's the only way for me to get my content exposure.

Any thoughts as to why that is?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Edward Morbius you mean in regards to hating social media or the lack of content exposure I get?

A nice portion of my former subscribers from Xanga quit supporting me the moment The Xanga Team chose to shut down Xanga 5 years ago, only to relaunch Xanga on WordPress, when Xanga was 1 of the original social media/blogging platforms. The Xanga Team wanted us to donate money to pay 60 grand to keep it running, when THEY themselves could've taken out a business loan to save Xanga.

After other bloggers donated and raised money to keep Xanga alive, The Xanga Team made it mandatory for everyone to pay $47 a year to blog. Long story short, The Xanga Team's money issues caused a huge division within the community. The division over paying to blog led to some of us joining other blogging sites, that were free to blog on and the rest were discouraged from blogging completely.

Also, those who were MY subscribers felt that just because THEY chose to quit blogging, that they no longer wanted to support me or my content. Xangans act like Xanga was the only blogging site to ever exist and were too lazy to put in more effort to create a new blogging community on a different platform.

In a nutshell, "I quit blogging and you should too or else find some other people to support you because I'm not blogging anymore."

Since the time of Xanga's shut down, I have struggled.

    ReplyDelete
  42. No, thank you. Had enough fake profiles from the US Arm [quote!] Forces. Always a much decorated General. Who is surprisingly functionally illiterate.

Hope you can find a less toxic and more supportive circle of bloggers.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Diana Studer thanks! There have been times I have contemplated stripping my website and the blogs I have spent hours, days, weeks, and months creating, publishing, and sharing.

A nice portion of friends are envious as well as jealous and begrudge me for having built my own website. They're too fixated on status. Having a website to them is all about the status. They have no idea how much work goes into having a website. They think it's all about vanity, when it's not.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Diana Studer And shockingly unfamiliar with the towns they claim they were born in, lived in, or are stationed at.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anna H. they think it is about vanity - is an uniformed opinion from outside looking on. I've been blogging since June 2009. Not a build your own, but constantly tweaked, even post by post sometimes.

Linda Tewes they have clearly scraped a tiny thumbnail and copypasta a wodge of text from an official site, looking for lurve. Ick. You need street smarts on social media, with a vengeance!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Diana Studer Have you heard of Stolen Valor?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Linda Tewes no - but I am not in USA?

    ReplyDelete
  48. I used to search by image - and end up on a similar site.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Diana Studer Reverse image searches are helpful.

    ReplyDelete
  50. 2006 was when I originally started blogging. That was when Yahoo 360 existed. Then, I started blogging again on Yahoo when they created a generic-looking blogger platform only to discontinue that blogging platform. It wasn't until January 2013 that I discovered Xanga and reached success. Within 1/2 year, The Xanga Team announced the shut down. After building my own website 5; years ago, I had been the most consistent with my blogging.

This year most of my blogging has been backburned mostly because Google Plus moderators kept blocking, blacklisting, and banning me and my blogs. They said I was "spamming". Meanwhile, an opportunistic, social climbing copycat joined every blogging and Horror community I joined before she became a member and moderator to every community I belonged to.

Because of those issues, I have dedicated more time to revising and submitting my short stories to writing companies.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sounds as if this is the female-oriented variant of catfishing.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Edward Morbius Yep. ‘Cuz there’s just something about a catfish in uniform.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Edward Morbius I don't know but it's rather annoying. She managed to social climb her way into blogging for a Horror company, which has been irking my ire for the last year or 2.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Today the catfish has a banner ... FBI
I am underwhelmed. Blocked and reported.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Diana Studer I don't believe the person I'm talking about is necessarily a catfish because catfish are impersonators and identity thieves. This woman I speak of is simply an opportunistic, social climbing, copycat who seems like she wants to poach my readers in all the Google Plus communities I joined. Call me crazy, but it wouldn't surprise if she reported every community we both joined to have me banned. When I was banned the first time last February, she didn't seem to care. That's a major red flag to me.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Anna H. if I look at your profile - you share the same post to various Communities, at the same time. That could trigger the automatic spam filter.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Diana Studer yeah, the last time 1 moderator said that I could only share to 5 different communities within an hour each time. For the most part, I have given up on sharing blogs to Google Plus, since it's shutting down next August 31st.

I would like to share my content at least once or twice within a day and be done. it's really difficult to tell who and how many can see all of what. Bloggers are supposed to get at least 1,000 page view per blog each time. I haven't been anywhere near that number, since Xanga and I would get both national and international page views, recommendations, and comments.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I make a rough schedule, and share the fresh blog post to one or two places for a few days. Spacing it out a little as some of the readers will be the same people. I have 10 photos in each post, so I share different photos (and hook line sinker text) to each place.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Diana Studer before typing blogs, a nice portion of my time is spent searching for free images or gifs to use in my blogs. The rest of my time is spent blogging, revising, proofreading, editing, publishing, and social sharing them. Normally, I start at night into the early morning. Because my mother has been occupying so much of my time these last 2 years, I'm just lucky to have time publishing and sharing my blogs before evening, if at all.

  60. Still not on MeWe.
    Still not on Reddit.
    Still interested in Open Book.
Still not stupid or clueless or self-destructive enough to go with Fascistbook.
Still gonna be cranking out tons of stuff on this platform for months to come.
I have a huge backlog. Actually, several stacks of massive backlogs.

For me there is no true replacement that does the work of G+.
I do not expect to find anything close.
    My loss here is super-huge.

For me there is no true replacement that does the work of G+.
I do not expect to find anything close.
    My loss here is super-huge.
    It's a lifetime event.

  81. wcangel I actually joined Google Plus the night after Thanksgiving in 2015. Since the time of creating my account, I made VERY LITTLE progress. This site is still confusing to use and this is the most social interaction I have EVER had on here. That's unless I have to go ask WHY I was banned. Social media is not meant for everybody, including yours truly.

Since the time of joining Facebook 7 years ago, being on it made my depression worse. Xanga got me back into blogging 5 years ago because there were people young and old, who actually cared about reading content and I was able to resonate with others 5 years ago.

Over the last 5 years, I have joined about every type of site I could think of. I have joined forums, other blogging communities, and social media sites. Most remain indifferent. I simply don't know what to do anymore. I've read every type of article, watched every type of tutorial, YouTube vlog, followed them to the letter, and I'm still nowhere near where I should be by now. Before The Xanga Team screwed over their entire community, I made top blogger at least several times.

Since Xanga's shut down, I haven't been able to catch a break. If it's not technological glitches, it's the indifference, jealousy, self-serving opportunists, copycats, etc. that I face.

  82. Anna H.
Anna, I do intensive and extensive hard core online writing and debate.
A lot does depend on the platform.
I know G+ communities extremely well, very deeply and very broadly.
Where G+ communities have been since early 2016 and where they are going.

One very important point is this:
A number of people here got tens of thousands of subscribers or even two hundred thousand subscribers in some earlier year, for doing essentially nothing over many months.
Basically at some point there was no real competition and these people offered to write content in some area that interested a lot of people.
Trying to do the same thing after 2015, many times better and with extraordinarily broad outreach and persistence could in some cases yield little [ or seemingly no ] effective impact.

I have deeply, deeply, deeply studied the usage of G+. Sometimes I write in languages I have never learned, such as German, Sinhalese [ think Sri Lanka ], Thai, Russian and Chinese, using Google Translate. And translate material from those languages back into English.
Last week I carried on a long eight round conversation with a guy who only wrote to me in Russian.

    Another point:
Some people get huge numbers of followers with their posts and collections of flowers or animals or romantic images.

    Another point:
There are quite a few moderator trolls. They think they have been appointed political commissars in a Soviet setting.

In general there are many trolls and many kinds of trolls. One of my favorites is an Australian guy who apparently likes little boys and who really wants to see sixty million Trumpzilla voters turned over for Nazi medical experiments.

    Another point:
Many people on G+ would be immediately failed by my seventh grade English teacher in Cincinnati Ohio, and many people here have no grasp of the basics of debate and public speech. Or even basic decency.
Quite a few would completely fail in the kind of debate I was doing in seventh grade [ and I was not great ]. These people have no grasp of evidence nor reasoning.

So my basic response to you is this:
First, if you do 'poorly' here, do NOT take it personally.

It may have nothing to do with you or your writing.

Second, Know Your Audience. Know who you are speaking to and what they want, and what you have to offer. And how you can phrase your writing to match their orientation.

On G+ I am a very very very different kind of animal. Essentially unique. In a number of ways.
I see some major gaps and I fill them.
For example, on this whole platform I am the only person who effectively supports Free Speech in a systematic and comprehensive way. Same goes for Buddhism.

I have a number of major G+ collections and even after a couple years these average only about seven hundred subscribers, not two thousand or ten thousand.
That low subscribership is in significant part due to the passivity of many people and general lack of interest in major public writing on some hot key topics.

These days the indifference you find online may be most common.
It could be that many millennials and younger people are in fact now disengaging from much or most social media. It's possible.

I have nothing good to say about Fascistbook or Twitter. As a matter of principle I have nothing to do with either. They are my political and social enemies.
I never heard of Xanga until you mentioned it.

The nature of my political, social, and spiritual work [ Buddhist spiritual doctor, consecrated pipe carrier of the Lakota Sioux ] drives me to do online engagement.
I expect to be done with political work in late 2020.

  83. I have accomplished a great deal on this platform and I will accomplish far more. It seems very possible that in 2016 - 2018 I have been able to really help above ten thousand people a year.
I have provided vitally needed services in key areas, and with sufficient personal time and continuation of G+ I could do some truly remarkable work in public service.

I will establish several more G+ collections and develop all my collections in the coming months before G+ shuts down.
My goal is simple: I bring massive amounts of light and knowledge and extremely important tools and resources, quite often in the form of books.

When I first stumbled on G+ in 3Q 2015 and examined the writing and people, the thought that came to me over and over again was this:
Who are these retarded people? How is it their thinking is fragmented and why do they not know how to do seventh grade English?

Well, there are some highly intelligent people here, and some people do really good or even great work. I know one woman who posts many times a day in politics. Like myself she wants to wake people up and help save western civilization. Which is always a good thing.

The serious and ugly truth of the matter is this:
These days many or most people are socially disconnected and lack basic social and communications skills.
There is a huge generational change and it is not for the better.
This is definitely what one of my teachers from the 1980s would call a 'gray period', in his words A Gray Period For The Planet.

I can drop everything and walk away. I can do my inner consciousness work and be done with people.
But I made a promise decades ago that everything I learned I would use to help people. And there are high level people who have been and still are counting on me to Get The Job Done.

So, whether or not I see big or great results on this platform, and whether or not there are many trolls and irrational people, I have a job to do here.

I have learned a lot about myself and others on this platform. I have also come across many major resources that help me and many other people. I have powerfully developed my communication, social, and psychological skills.
What I have not done here is actually find anything like a Marilyn Ferguson [ Aquarian Conspiracy ] type team or people.

Given the very high hopes a lot of us had in 1983, this is really painful.
And Mordor is very much on the march these days, with orcs swarming all over. No one of us could have expected this in 1983. It's shocking.
And basic communication is ten to fifteen times more difficult today than I would have expected in seventh grade.

The work of positive social change and consciousness raising has in major overall respects come to look like a failure.
Even tho on a deeper, quieter level, the work that has been done has been wonderful and powerful and extraordinarily transformative.

In such times it is crucially important to inspire and teach people and to give them stacks of good tools and resources. As tho we were teaching tools and strategies of wilderness survival.
Why? The real truth of life is that Life Never Gets Any Easier.
The only thing we can do is Get Better.
I do the necessary teaching work in several categories. And I will help as many people as I can.

Optimism in these circumstances may sound incredibly naïve. But when combined with critical thinking and the classical teachings of inner warriorship, optimism is vitally important to personal mental health and social work.
    As Albert Camus said:
"Now the only moral value is courage. We have nothing to lose but everything. So let us begin."
In other words, some of us Go Gryffindor.

John Lennon: There Are Two Basic Motivating Forces In Life

    ReplyDelete
  84. "There are two basic motivating forces, fear and love.
When we are afraid, we pull back from life.
When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance.
We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and imperfections.
If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create.
Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and openhearted vision of people who embrace life."
    John Lennon

This our time is a cusp period, the social panorama is becoming very polarized, it's all about light versus darkness, and we have nothing to lose but everything. So let us begin.

"For, in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet.
We all breathe the same air.
We all cherish our children’s future.
    And we are all mortal.”
—- JFK’s commencement speech at American University, June 10, 1963.

"The vision I see is not only a movement of direct democracy, of self- and co-determination and non-violence, but a movement in which politics means the power to love and the power to feel united on the spaceship Earth...
In a world struggling in violence and dishonesty, the further development of non-violence - not only as a philosophy but as a way of life, as a force on the streets, in the market squares . . . - becomes one of the most urgent priorities."
-- Petra Kelly, Green Movement organizer

A New World Is Being Born

"The old world is dying, but a new world is being born. It generates inspiration from the chaos that beats upon us all.

"The fake grandeur and security, the unfulfilled promises and illusory power, the number of the dead, and those about to die, will charge the forces of our courage and determination.

"The old world will die so that the new world will be born with less sacrifice and agony of the living."
-- Carlos Bulosani 1913-1956, "America Is In The Heart"

“Our aim is to build a society which will not be bound by the dictates of arbitrary authority, comfortable superstition, stifling tradition, or suffocating orthodoxy but would rather be based on reason, compassion, humanity, equality and science.”
    -- Avijit Roy ( martyred 2015 Bangladesh )

"Jedi do not fight for peace. That's only a slogan, and is as misleading as slogans always are. Jedi fight for civilization, because only civilization creates peace. We fight for justice because justice is the fundamental bedrock of civilization: an unjust civilization is built upon sand. It does not long survive a storm."
    -- Mace Windu

"The cause of freedom is not the cause of a race or sect, a party or a class. It is the cause of humankind, the very birthright of humanity."
    -- Anna Julia Stewart

"In protecting others you save yourself."
-- from the film "Seven Samurai"

"I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees."
    -- Stephane Charbonnier ( martyred 2015 Paris France )
