Since I've been visiting Mewe I have been having problems accessing the internet. I find I suddenly can't get to web page or email accounts e.g Gmail, or facebook until I have closed my browser and flushed out all the junk. Then things are normal again. But this is very disruptive to be in the middle of various things, and have to break everything off. I often read articles, listen to the news, watch movies, listen to music, give and receive feedback on haiku on facebook, at the same time and it is an unpleasant break in my rhythm and continuity to have all this suddenly disrupted by Mewe.
Does anyone else have this problem? I am thinking of stopping my visits to Mewe. At the moment I am using two laptops - one that I don't use for Mewe.

Been on MeWe since early Oct, No problems. I am running Fedora Linux an Chromium browser, it's a hybrid of Chrome.
ReplyDeleteProbably not caused by MeWe. Way too many variables to guess what could be cause. Try different browsers to see difference.
ReplyDeleteCurtis Edenfield Yes I use chrome. I also have this problem if I try to access facebook or mewe via gmail notifications. It's very odd.
ReplyDeleteReboot computer. Try firefox browser (set as default browser so email notification uses firefox or other browser)
ReplyDeleteHave you tried clearing the cache in chrome? Here's instructions on that support.google.com - Clear cache & cookies - Computer - Google Account Help
ReplyDeleteBill Brayman Curtis Edenfield As I said above, when I clean up e.g. clean out the cache, usually it is OK until the next time. But just now I had to do a complete reboot to get back to facebook. Could it be that Mewe is private from the rest of the internet, also the facebook groups I visit are closed groups, could it be that causing it? Of course I know how to clean the cache and my point was to have to do this and,or reboot every time is totally disruptive, I would rather not have to. It is only since joining Mewe I have had this problem.
ReplyDeleteI prefer using chrome to firefox because I make a lot of bookmarks. Chrome names them so bookmarking is instant. With firefox you have to put in the url and type in a name every time you want to bookmark something.
I think it's Chrome. I've been struggling with my computer harddrive always on and the overall system speed being down. I cleared the chrome cache and things got better for awhile. Then I uninstalled chrome altogether, ran the DISM and SFC tools (no OS comments please) then reinstalled Chrome (not the beta I was on.) Now system not continually churning the hard drive.
ReplyDeleteAre you using Windows if so which 7, 8 or 10. Did you update Windows? No, viewing closed groups in MeWe won't do that This sounds more like a conflict from a recent update, with either the operating system or browser update.
ReplyDeleteCurtis Edenfield Windows 10 - yes there was an update recently. But I am now wondering if there is a hardware issue, with the disc because it is wirring too much. I am now using firefox and that seems to be OK when it comes to going to websites. I can't do that now on chrome. but that constant whirring is worrying. either i need to reinstall windows or get a new laptop?
ReplyDelete10 and it's been awhile. Not saying it's affecting MeWe but I was surprised at how much conflict seems to have been dumped by flushing Chrome.
ReplyDeleteOk, Chrome has gotten HUGH! It is a resource hog now, so is FireFox. Yes, they both access your window swap drive constantly. No this won't damage or hurt anything, this is how windows is designed to run. Each time you open a new tab in Chrome or FF, windows treats it as new browser being opened. If you run third party extension in either browser that weren't from a authorized group or company, these could cause the problems you are experiencing. The recent update by Win 10 can could bring these problems out.
ReplyDeleteCass Morrison You say you uninstalled and then reinstalled chrome? Then it was OK? I might try that. Task mngr shows chrome using a lot of resources, it's got 34 progs using nearly 1,555 mb memory.
ReplyDeleteWindows is trying to adapt to open source software, but its slow at this. Make sure all extensions are up to date as well as your relevant software. As a matter of proforma I tell everyone to consider dumping Windows. Linux is not easy, but they are getting Much better. The simple fact is your computer experience will improve dramatically with a Linux based operating system. I have been using Linux since XP an don't experience near the problems windows users do. Food for thought!
ReplyDeleteCurtis Edenfield Windows 10 is something horrible that I had no choice but to get used to,like everyone else. Maybe I should save up for a Mac?
ReplyDeleteYes, Chrome (beta) was using most of the resources for me as well. Even if it doesn't fix this particular problem, releasing resources may help. I used task manager to remove all the chrome instances (there seemed to be multiple) then uninstalled (didn't delete data). If you are on windows 10 I would also run the system file checker in case anything got corrupted. Then I re-installed chrome (not beta). Maybe because Chrome is related to Chrome OS the operating systems are clashing. I don't know - I find everything so opaque now.
ReplyDeleteMac is a option, if you use an iPhone, yes, without a doubt. And you could still experiment with Linux if you choose. I know many people who have Mac's an dual boot with Linux based OS's just fine.
ReplyDeleteCass Morrison thanks, yes, I must look into this tomorrow when I'm not tired. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteCurtis Edenfield I don't use an iphone because the signal here is so bad I have to have a landline and no point in paying for what doesn't work. I just want something that works without having to think too much about it. Funny, since we've been talking about it, it's quietened down, that whirring stopped lol. Chrome is fine on my other laptop, why not this one - that is a mystery - same OS
ReplyDeleteIf you want to try linux, I would suggest starting with a Live Linux Distribution you can run straight from a USB stick without needing to install it on your hard drive. That way you can try it out, see if it's anything for you, without having to repartition to your hard disk and install a secondary operating system. tutorials.ubuntu.com - Create a bootable USB stick on Windows | Ubuntu tutorials has instructions on how to create a Live USB Ubuntu installation on Windows.
ReplyDeleteEven if you decide to install Linux permanently on your system, I would still suggest installing it along-side Windows as a dualboot solution, so you can always switch to Windows if you need to.
As for MeWe: you could consider creating a separate browser profile that you'll only use for MeWe:
Chrome instructions: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/2364824?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en
Firefox instructions:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
That way if MeWe is causing some memory leak, closing just that instance should suffice and shouldn't pollute the rest of your browsing experience.
Lots of things can make Chrome slow to a crawl. Clear your browser cache.
ReplyDeleteJulie Wills been over that, not the problem, thx
ReplyDeleteHey guys, I think I know what was causing it - a software conflict. I had Bitdefender which was malfunctioning, and couldn't get any sense out of them helpwise. So it got rid of it and installed a different one - turned out it had an inernet guard to protect from potentially harmful sites. But I already have Malwarebytes doing that job, which has never caused any issues. But there must have been conflict between the two. I just uninstalled the internet guard extention and now the whirring has stopped and all seems normal again!
ReplyDeleteThere have been many reported issues with the latest windows updates including completely breaking the computer so it won’t boot. Could be related to that.
ReplyDeleteStuart Bates yes, I am hearing about it. You would think Microsoft could do better!
ReplyDeleteMartha Magenta you would think, but it seems to be getting worse!
ReplyDeleteStuart Bates It is so wrong - a most expensive mess
ReplyDeleteMartha Magenta and yet people keep paying them for it!
ReplyDeleteMartha Magenta I am glad you solved it! Yes even supposed good extensions can hang you up. Unfortunately Windows doesn't consider browser extensions when they update. An many times it causes sometimes severe problems. I've had to walk my Dad through the steps on shutting down extensions many times.
ReplyDeleteCurtis Edenfield Most of my extensions are allready shut down. I had the problem again last night - so I will have to do something more drastic
ReplyDeleteI've had the same problem with a Linux browser called Surf. MeWe would not display until I deleted the cache. Surf uses webkit which is what chrome and Safari use.
ReplyDeleteI have been using MeWe since October and I do not have this problem.
