As Shelenn Ayres stated, this update is in preparation for G+ becoming a G Suite exclusive/restricted feature. A (similar?) update has already been announced for Android for the 22nd of February: https://support.google.com/a/answer/9229693?hl=en Google+ Android app A new version of the Google+ Android app will be released on February 22, 2019. All G Suite Android users will need to update the Google+ Android app before March 7, 2019 to continue using Google+ on mobile devices. Old versions of the app will no longer be supported. support.google.com - Important changes to Google+ for G Suite due to the consumer shutdown - G Suite Admin Help
Christine Bichler since it explicitly mentions the 7th of March, which is also the shutdown date of various APIs used by developers to communicate with the Google+ servers, I'm guessing we do, at least based on the assumption that the Google+ app was/is still using some of those public APIs instead of relying solely on internal, private, APIs; I coule be wrong though.
Filip H.F. Slagter thank you, I know it's the date when they shutdown the API's, well I always fear the app will not work properly with every new update and I just want to stay here till the final end.

Wintergarden makes about as much sense as Brexit
ReplyDeleteWintergarden forget that last remark. I just realised whatever side you’re on brexit makes some sense to someone somewhere
ReplyDeleteThey're probably changing it to say "G+ is dead" instead of "having problems reaching the server".
ReplyDeleteAdrian Colley it said bug fixes. Guessing we’re the bugs.
ReplyDeleteG+ 2.0 is for paying users.
ReplyDeleteWintergarden G+ is only cancelled as consumers platform. It will still present if you've got a Gsuite account.

Filip H.F. Slagter that's an interesting info...though I wonder if we, the non-G Suite users have to update the app as well, is there any information?
