Hello, regarding album archive :

Hello, regarding album archive :
(I did use community search and my browser's find in page before posting this, but had trouble finding the information)
I know the "photos from posts" album, along with "profil photos" and "scrapbook" will be deleted, but on top of that I have an additional 100 or so automagically created albums, all following a DD/MM/YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD naming scheme, that contain usually 1 photo/image, mostly from my G+ posts, sometimes from my Google Photos uploads, which I find very weird.

There's no option to download all the album archive at once, and it's unclear whether they will be included in a Google Photos takeout (unnecessarily big AND I have to manually select the albums with no indication of their origin)

Quoting the faq :
"Photos and videos from Google+ in your Album Archive and your Google+ pages will also be deleted. You can download and save your content, just make sure to do so before April."

  1. Is there going to be another social media like this Google plus?

  2. I've been wondering about this, too, Younes Layachi.

My assumption has been: everything will be gone.

  3. Marysia Kurowski I liked Google plus, and I was thinking it'll be fully gone but I don't want it to go away

  4. Apologies, Brandon Dowdy; my comment was meant to be to Younes Layachi; perhaps I should have said so. I've now edited my comment to make that clearer.

  5. Marysia Kurowski your fine, I didn't see the other persons name lol. But yea I'll miss this

  6. I was looking for a solution to this too but as soon as I learned that takeout finally working I decided to give it a try again and downloaded all my 17GB worth of images. I'm not sure if it includes the "photos from posts" and the date-named albums but for now I'll just assume they are included.

  7. As far as I know profile photos will not be deleted, they are related to your Google account. I'm not sure about the albums with the date, but I guess they will be deleted too. Note that your photos stored in Google Photos will not be deleted, also albuns you have created before Google Photos will remain and are stored on Google Photos. I've learned if you don't see these albums in Google Photos, for some reason there are hidden albums and somewhere I found the option to unhide them. But you're right there is no option to download albums all at once from the archive, I think the best way is to go to photos from posts and download what you want to keep, and just ignore the albums with the date.

  8. Christine Bichler care to share how to unhide the hidden albums?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Halfey Halphstein It's a while since I did this, but will try to find it and will check in later, I'm just on my way out :)

  10. Christine Bichler I wasn't aware of the "hidden albums" until you brought it up here, and I do notice I used to have lots of date-named albums in the past but now there's less than 10 left. I'm trying to cover all bases.

EDIT: I found more than 10 when I scrolled way down to the bottom, but most are empty.

  11. Even more strange is just now I found lots of my date-named albums were empty. Those albums were automatically created when more than 1 picture were uploaded to a post (the album name corresponds to the date of the post). Maybe at one point in G+ history Google moved those pictures somewhere but some other date-named albums still have pictures in them though.

  30. Halfey Halphstein the hidden albums are in Google Photos... I know it was a bit tricky to unhide them.
Yes I too have a some empty albums in the archive... I just ignore them, Google Photos created them automatically, not sure why though

  31. Halfey Halphstein think I did this.. in Google Photos go to the sharing section, click 3-dot menue and then show in albums
    https://support.google.com/photos/thread/1611780?hl=en
if you know the name of the album you also can search for it and then proceed as above. Hope this helps.

  32. Christine Bichler Unfortunately that was something I already know so it wasn't really helpful in this case but thanks anyway.

Following the steps explained in the website you shared I checked my "picasa archives" (not sure what to call it) and yeah it contains everything, both missing and available albums. There's no way to tell which one is hidden and which one isn't; I'd have to open 2 browser windows side by side to compare. But then another problem is there's no way to sort the albums by name or date. The albums were sorted differently on Photos and Archives, making it very hard to do a comparison. Since it's come to this I'll just assume I've saved everything with my recent data takeout because there's no way I could sift through hundreds or possibly thousands of albums like this.
