Have been on MeWe for a month now, thought I'll share my thoughts...
Good Stuff
* The format is much like G+
* Groups are like communities. You can have private groups, public groups and the control is good. Only one owner though.
* Chat more interfaced into the App/ Site unlike HO which is separate.
* It's free up to 8GB of photos, vids etc. The allocated space is adequate if you don't share too many videos.
Bad Stuff
* It doesn't have the resources of Google, expect server glitches, slow at times
* Removed the App from my cell as your contacts can Voice or Video call you anytime. There's no "turn off Notifications"
* No collections (even though I use Groups/ Communities and restrict the posting to myself)
* the Notifications are horrendous. Read notifs stay, there is no X to discard notifs you don't want to read. The color of unread notifs is a light blue, virtually indistinguishable to the already read white.
* no public posts (this has been promised)
* sharing a posts does not identify the original post(er)
Overall
* It's not a bad free alternative. Started a Collection (in MeWe it's a group with me as owner/ sole poster) and garnered 1100 followers in such a short time. The user numbers are there.

MeWe here also. I have no trouble disabling notifications at fine granularity. You have to set them for each group.
ReplyDeleteCollections are up and running as of Oct 28. Try updating your Android app. Tech Crunch, The Onion, and many others have pages and collections now. Pages are ranked in a sort of trending scheme. I don't know the algorithm used though.
I am co-admin on one group, but I don't yet know what the extent of my powers are yet. Lol.
Phillip Landmeier thanks for that but pages (or collections) cost $2.99 pre month 🤔 guess I have to stick to groups.
ReplyDeleteAs for notifs, I'm totally lost. Say I don't need notifications of emojis. How do I stop them showing up in the little bell at the top?
I tried MeWe for a week, but haven’t checked in since then. Spending more time on Medium and Quora and other long-form sites/apps.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can answer a question for me.
ReplyDeleteDue to charging for extras like memory, bells and whistles, pages at $2.99 a pop, and due to them promoting safety and privacy, I wondered the payment method and security they have set up.
I was concerned with giving them my credit card info in particular.
A site is safe, until it is not.
Anyway, to find out, I started the process of setting up a page. Much to my surprise, it never asked me for payment method or anything...it simply created the page.
I didn't actually want the page, and so looked for a way to delete it.
For the life of me, I can't find a way to delete the page.
I can delete my main profile easy enough through settings, but can't find out how to delete a page itself.
So, can anyone help me with my couple queries?
Christian Nalletamby or anyone?
al m Ask in MEWE HELP AND SUPPORT.
ReplyDeleteDon't know anyone who had set up a page yet.

I've set up a page, well, 2 pages (one public, one private). It never asked me for payment so far. And yeah there's no way to delete page yet.
ReplyDeleteHalfey Halphstein Hah. Well, that explains it.
ReplyDeleteTheresa Az I only use the Android app, so that's all I know. When viewing a group, hit the circled letter i at the top right. All kinds of info then appears and some options. Hit Notification Preferences and you have four checkboxes and a box to check or uncheck all.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the mobile notifications is horrendous. The notification alarm may go off several times for just one notification. Image if there were 2 or more. And to make matter worse the notification settings for the mobile app is separate from the one in the web. You have to change notification settings on both platforms because a change on one platform won't be synced to the other one.
ReplyDeleteHow the engagement, Please ? Theresa Az
ReplyDeleteTheresa Az great insights, thanks a lot!
ReplyDeleteAs I understand it, your Mewe content is not visible on the internet, so what would be the point of paying $3 per month for a page to promote your work? I am on Mewe and I find it adequate for poetry groups, but it has severe limitations.
ReplyDeleteafter a reading of this short brief now i even more sure that i don't check it by myself. thank you for explaining the bright and dark sides :-)
ReplyDeleteMartha Magenta
ReplyDeleteA MeWe Page can be used for more than just promoting your work to the outside world.
I'm using one to re-home my various G+ Collections for those who follow me on MeWe as it will help keep my MeWe Group cleaner.
Andrew Hatchett I don't understand - if our content cannot be view outside, or found by search engines, how can a mewe page be any use promoting our work?
ReplyDeleteMartha Magenta
ReplyDeleteThe way I'm doing it is not promoting my work so much as letting everyone know where i will be (i.e. sharing the link to my MeWe profile on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, etc.)
[ mewe.com - MeWe: The best chat & group app with privacy you trust. if anyone is interested] .
Once they are on MeWe then they can join my group or ask access to my collections. Luckily, I've had about 80% of the active members of my G+ community already join me on MeWe.
Andrew Hatchett I get that but they have to join Mewe to see your stuff. My argument is, what is the value in paying $3 per month for a page that only other mewe members can see?
ReplyDeleteMartha Magenta
ReplyDeleteThe value to me is that I don't have to put up with spammers, trolls, porn, extremists, and the other kinds of riff-raff that inhabit the internet... and neither do those who read my MeWe page or join my MeWe group.
Less than 10 cents a day buys me & my MeWe followers that.
;)
Andrew Hatchett It's great for poetry/writers groups
ReplyDeleteMartha Magenta Yup. That's one kind of group where you'll find me.
ReplyDeleteAndrew Hatchett Exactly. Some refuse to use MeWe because there's riff-raff, porn, nazis, and who knows what there. (There is on G+ too). Well, yes there is. BUT, they can't bother you unless you let them. You won't see it unless you seek it out.
ReplyDeleteAs I know nothing is public on MeWe so its not possible to give a link to our profile like we can do on Instagram & Twitter?
ReplyDelete/sub
ReplyDeleteKerem Go Right. In it's current form, MeWe is useless for general promotion to the world, like if you're a restaurant and want to post a link somewhere. Can't do it.
ReplyDeleteThis will become an issue for me next year. For now, I don't care if my stuff is public or not.
Um, peeps in this thread mention money. I just joined up and haven't been asked for any, nor for any financial info like card number.
ReplyDelete"* sharing a posts does not identify the original post(er)" - Theresa Az.
This is a bit worrisome. So if I share a photo of mine, other people can share it without my name being attached? :-O
If that's the case I shall be running away pretty fast.
Thank you for this post, Theresa.
Marysia Kurowski They're fixing the post attribution thing. It works as it does now because MeWe is all about privacy.
ReplyDeleteMarysia Kurowski
ReplyDeleteThey can only share it if you allow them to to share/download your stuff. Too bad it isn't on an individual post basis where ypu could allow one post to be shared but not allow another one to be shared.
Andrew Hatchett and Phillip Landmeier, thank you.
ReplyDeleteI've just started here do you think heading over to this MeWe a better option?
ReplyDeleteTheresa Az can you give me your MeWe community link? We can start to support each other from here.
