Data takeout finally successful without error at the 4th attempt. This time I made sure I only selected posts (exclude photos and everything else) but still come up with almost 400GB anyway. I guess I'll just use the G+ Exporter app then.

Oh! Now I am worried how many GB I will have. Good thing I bought a 6T external hard drive. Yikes!
ReplyDeletecobalt please Local storage is not my issue though. My worry is I won't be able to download that in a week. My internet is not fast enough to handle this.
ReplyDeleteEdit: I think I'll get the 1TB Google Drive for now, try requesting takeout again and keep it in the Drive for a while. That way I will have enough time to download it, unlike the emailed link that will expire in a week. However another concern is there's no guarantee the process will be successful again. After all it already took me 4 tries to finally have an error-free takeout.

Something doesn't seem right there...
eric peacock I think I've read somewhere that the takeout archive contains lots of duplicates. Maybe that's the reason. Or maybe they slipped in photos in there too.

ReplyDeleteThe Google Takeout "posts only" option still includes photos, in fact many many copies of most photos. I downloaded the first 2GB archive of many, and it was mostly photos, with 30 copies of some of them. And many of them weren't even my photos - apparently it included the photos from posts I merely commented on. The third party Google+ Exporter app is much more efficient.
