First post in a series, on how to capture and export your Google+ content.
An upcoming post will deal with how to transform and import that content onto a new platform.

Time is ticking and the deadline for exporting is looming closer every day. The current word is that some of the G+ APIs will disappear already at the end of January, while the service itself will shut down at end of March.

  1. Thank you for this. Like you, I see no viable alternative to G+. I am undecided about exporting my content. I have been here since day 1 in 2011 and have only gone a handful of days since without making a post. I really wonder if an export will grab all my posts. I noticed years ago that posts I collected in a Favorites folder began disappearing.

  2. The export appears to be very comprehensive, but I can't say for sure that it is complete.

  3. Lars Fosdal I have to correct that.
I can't find this post in the export, and the link that was shared is actually 404 on G+.

  4. Peter Vogel More comments on original post. We'll figure it out.

  5. Might it be a barrier on the G+ side, after women objected to having their profile photo reshared by men. We had a patch when G+ autoposted 'Diana has changed her profile picture'
Deliberately choosing to reshare - fine. But a silent autopost which has a zombie life of its own - no, thank you.
We had to wade back and find the original post and disable comments and reshares - on a post we never made.

  6. Sigh just checked mine - going to block and report

  7. Diana Studer Gah. I used to submit images to G+ because I wanted to make use of them later, but not to make a post concerning them there and then. Those would create posts. Sigh.

I forget how that ultimately worked out, but I mostly stopped doing that. I'll add images to posts from time to time, but almost always to illustrate a specific point.
