Ello appears to be now wholly controlled by Los Angeles based TalentHouse, who are peculiarly silent on involvement and locations

I've found no official announcement, and the contact and other site information at Ello go out of the way to obscure this information, but the site has apparently been completely transferred.

The last of the original staff, Mark Gelband, Amber, Mayah, and Colin, are no longer with the operation.

The "productupdate" hashtag has not been used by Ello in six months:

Contact information on TalentHouse is not available on Ello, though it may be found elsewhere:

TalentHouse T&C specify "Unless otherwise agreed, arbitration proceedings will be held in Los Angeles County, California, United States," though they are governed by "the laws of the State of New York".

The "Business" side of the house describes what the organisation provides:

Talenthouse connects brands and agencies with the largest on-demand creative community in the world. One that consists of creators with a completely unique, diverse and authentic voice.

Wikipedia provides more details:

Talenthouse was co-founded in 2009 by Co-CEOs Amos Pizzey and Roman Scharf. The privately held company is funded by various investment groups including ProSiebenSat.1, Reliance Entertainment, Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt’s Innovation Endeavors, 3TS Cisco Growth Fund, and individuals including Chris DeWolfe, William Lauder, Brett Ratner, Eurythmics Dave Stewart, Jean Pigozzi and Gerard Butler. The Talenthouse headquarters are located in Los Angeles, California, USA with offices in New York City and London.

A Facebook page puts the company in West Hollywood, CA.

"ElloHype" maintains a Medium page, again, with no information on management/ownership changes that I find:

  1. Thank you Edward Morbius. I was wondering about Ello, especially since it was (is?) a B Corporation.

In fact, the very first thought I had when learning GPlus was going away was how neat it would be were Ello to become the heir apparent, but of course with a new mission and similar functions and look-and-feel as GPlus.

Looks now as if that was a pipe dream.

  2. Scott Scowcroft Troubling in that exchange between DDailey and Mark was Mark's response that Ello was still a B-Corp "as far has I know". You'd think the public face (as much as he was) of a concern should know that sort of thing.

I see this as a cautionary tale of proprietary online publishing generally. None of the business models seems to work very well -- either as business, or socially. :(

  3. Filip H.F. Slagter The site is live but given the absolute failure to provide information and guidance, it's not one I can recommend.

  4. I was more wondering how long it will remain ad-free, which it originally promised to always be.
As well as to uphold the promises to never sell user data to advertisers or third parties.
Is the sale of the entire platform still in line with not selling user data to third parties?
