Some really good news regarding migration.
My G+ Synchronicity PLUS collection had over 20k followers and used to regularly get 100s of likes before the "Ghost town days". It was quite an investment in time for me.
Anyway, I decided to run with Instagram in early December and within two months I've gone from 157 followers to 2,592 followers. The best part is that I'm getting over 600 likes per day and got my highest one today at 724! Which is over 300% more than my best response on G+

The interaction is less but that may build over time. In a way, that was the best thing about G+ until the last days when it dwindled down to the select few.
ReplyDeleteThis group looks good all the same. Well done guys
ReplyDeleteIt's Facebook (Instagram is a part of it), that's all there is to say about it.
ReplyDeleteVisual, but where is your textual content now?
ReplyDeleteI now have an IG, to promote my blog -- you need to get the eyeballs there somehow -- and I'm slowly building a follower base. (Since I'm posting about books and classical music, I don't expect the numbers to rise quickly.)
ReplyDeleteBut Diana is quite right: barring any sort of extended dialogue in the picture "comments," there won't be the same sort of discussion going on. (OTOH, before this business of the "mass migration," I didn't participate in all that many discussions here, either!)
And, Holger, no: Instagram is now part of F******k, but it isn't the same thing. For one thing, people don't go all nuts and wonder what's wrong with you if you tell them you're not on Instagram.
Just like G+ performed mediocre to me, instagram does so too. Perhaps my content is shit. Most likes I get is 100+ and 900+ followers after all the time and energy I've invested. I still like to enjoy my humble work with people though. instagram.com - Kerem (@keremgo3d) • Instagram photos and videos
ReplyDeleteAlthough I've seen Instagram glorifying a crappy photo of an egg and turned it into a record breaker with 5+ million likes. Even Jaden Smith despises the double standards of Instagram so I just care a bit less about likes & followers after seeing those examples.
ReplyDeleteSteve Vasta this time I wasn't thinking of comments, but Peter's own writing. He has interesting things to say about language and words - that I will miss when we sunset.
ReplyDeleteDiana Studer I will miss your input here too. I'm sure serendipity will find a way that we can still connect
ReplyDeleteKerem Go The important thing to realise is that Synchronicity Plus was (and still is) a collection that suits the IG format
ReplyDeleteKerem Go Quality is a major factor and to be honest I learnt quickly I had to up that quality to succeed yet G+ was a great place to cut my teeth on
ReplyDeleteHolger Jakobs Yes Facebook now owns it but it has definitely retained its own individuality. One thing I liked about G+ was that I could meet strangers with similar interests. FB has never allowed this. IG most definitely allows it
ReplyDeleteKerem Go I haven't used bots to build my profile but rather have handpicked those with similar interests. So I have a realistic level of followers not an inflated one. Again, this handpicking is something I learned here at G+
ReplyDeleteSteve Vasta Building a list has a lot to do with isolating the best hashtags as it exposes you to people with similar interests much like a search engine does. The classical music niche is no exception.
ReplyDeleteDiana Studer I will be blogging at peterhatherley.com - Predictive SEO as soon as G+ sunsets. Look forward to catching up there. Where will you be posting?
ReplyDeletePeter Hatherley but I have a few groups of strangers on FB drawn together by common interests - zero waste - mediterranean gardening - South African bloggers ...
ReplyDeleteI was and will be here

Diana Studer True, I haven't invested much time in groups due to my G+ time commitment. Very good point must investigate it further. Nice to catch up!
ReplyDeletePeter Hatherley "quality" and "instagram" sounds funny in same sentence 😂 I don't think my work is low quality. Here is an post with over 30.000 likes which is a blank white image https://www.instagram.com/p/BWoRV-TD_wJ/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=1u2d2ujlgh6s9

Peter Hatherley I've bookmarked your blog on the strength of Diana's recommendation, above. I look forward to reading your posts there!
ReplyDeleteI'm at stevedisque.wordpress.com
Steve Vasta thanks Steve
ReplyDeleteKerem Go On the other hand, I have hand built my list by searching out, liking and following the highest possible quality photos on IG.
ReplyDeleteI'm a photographer but my love for high quality imagery came through my occupation
It has allowed me to radically improve the quality of the photographs in my IG galleries. I follow the best so I see the best and feature the best. No plain paper images for me.
Compare the G+ version with my current IG version and you'll see how I found a far higher level of quality images on IG. And that quality is reflected in my current gallery.
