Super important, final update: please read!
————————————————————————

A few months ago, right after Google announced the closure of google+, I triggered several polls regarding the future of this community. It seems obvious google+ is crumbling down "as we speak" (with features being phased out prior April 2nd, the official end date), so I might not be able to make future announcements on this platform, hence please continue reading!

A majority of members voted for the creation of our own platform, instead of letting the community scatter to the wind — https://plus.google.com/+DenisWallez/posts/Z5htcvs5hi8
a large majority of members voted against deleting the "Buddhism and Meditation" community before the end of g+ itself — https://plus.google.com/+DenisWallez/posts/6hVoDK331vx — which has the benefit of giving us significant time to create our own platform,
and, conditional to who the authors are, a majority of members would consider subscribing to a newsletter magazine — https://plus.google.com/+DenisWallez/posts/FDhqXjBLTWm — and some authors have also expressed interest in participating, some people could help on the technical side, etc.

Dharma.direct ( https://dharma.direct/ ) is the direct result of my efforts since then.
It will combine magazine, newsletter and social media capabilities (with strong privacy and compliance to GDPR…) with an editorial strategy favouring original content from authors ready to actually engage with students online.
The development is nearly finished, and it is expected to launch in March 2019. Please bookmark this https://dharma.direct/ address! If you've not done so yet, please subscribe to the temporary mailing list https://mailchi.mp/f77b1728b46b/migrating_googleplus_buddhism to stay informed.
If you're interested in writing for the magazine (notably for issue #1), now is the time to contact me at denis@dharma.house and we'll discuss your proposal.

Alternatively, I've acquired the "Buddhism Q&A" niche on the new social network narrative, which is also about to launch in March.
You can claim your spot via https://alpha.narrative.org/wait-list?r=4eQCkgjjWr (once in, search for "Buddhism Q&A" and click on the relevant button to 'follow' the niche).

#Dharma #Buddhism
PS: if you wish to follow me personally, please register your email for the newsletter of Dharma.house at http://secret.dharma.house/newsletters/ Right now, Dharma.house is going through major changes, and the newsletter is in fact inactive… but it'll be used —in due time— to let people know where I am and what I offer (in relation to #Buddhism, #Dharma, #ethics …).

  1. Denis Wallez Is Narrative open or closed to non members ability to read content? I have visited and enjoyed the G+ community on many occasions over the past years though I didn’t feel inspired to comment so didn’t actually opt for membership

  2. What's interesting here is that Google Plus allowed a specific group of people to coalesce as a community, but only the death of Google Plus encouraged this community to be reborn in a form that might have somehow evolved if Google Plus didn't exist. Is that how Buddhism works?

  3. CA M narrative is in alpha right now, the beta version is expected in March, so I cannot answer your question.
On Dharma.direct, commentators will be able to set the visibility of their content with granularity at the comment level: hence they might post a comment to 'public', another to 'members', yet another to a 'circle'… It's also possible to 'inherit' the visibility of some content you reply to —be it post or comment— [and add a restriction as 'safety'… e.g. imposing 'members' or a given 'circle' as the 'maximum' audience…] so that the visibility (of the replies associated to some content) naturally evolves if the visibility (of the said content) is later edited…

  4. James Lamb rebirth is definitely part of Buddhist doctrines ;-)
Funnily enough, I'm not sure "the form that might have somehow evolved if Google Plus didn't exist" would have ever arisen though! Google+ was critical in obtaining a critical mass (for the community to have regular content posted —in particular given the signal/noise ratio sought… it's easy to get a lot of low-quality content!) and a big concern of the "migration" is whether the critical mass can be maintained.
Many attempts at creating online Buddhist communities have quickly aborted, in the past and recently, due to low membership…

  5. Sorry for the late replies, I found your comments by chance, as g+ did not notify me of your tags.
