That's a server invitation link. It won't do any existing d* user any good in finding you. The best way to achieve that is to give out your d* account name (the email-like one, something@pluspora.com)
yeah good question how to point to user. I just checked and there's a name@ version and a user id version [and a third version which gets converted to ID version}. Here's mine:
Something I'm finding mildly annoying about the federation. You follow a link to somebody's profile page on one instance. But your home instance is on another one and you're logged in over there, not here. The process of following the person currently on the screen then becomes convoluted and non-obvious. I've had this with Mastodon and with Diaspora. Th quickest solution seems to be to copy their name, go into your logged in tab on your home instance and search for them.
1. billbrayman@pluspora.com is your (human-readable) diaspora id. Others can search for it on whatever pod they are on to add you. So this is the preferred one to spread your contact.
2. https://pluspora.com/people/639ad200ae5501364748005056268def - In this, 639ad200ae5501364748005056268def is the GUID of your account, which refers to your account on any pod that has ever interacted with you in any way. So any pod url of the form https:///people/ will work if the pod knows about the account belonging to that GUID (i.e. if it's an account on that pod, or that pod has received at least one post or comment by that account). Up until diaspora 0.7.7.0, that URL required the viewer to be logged in on the pod. This seems to be fixed in 0.7.7.1 so I can now look at your profile on pluspora.com - pluspora without being logged in there.
3. https://pluspora.com/u/billbrayman - this also shows the user's profile page. It only works on the pod where the user is registered, but on the plus side, it's available without logging in even on older d* instances.
4. https://pluspora.com/i/bc8a85c383ce - This is an invitation token to create an account on a pod that has closed registration. If someone signs up through that link, they'll have your contact. But it won't let others find your account who already have an account on that pod or another one.
So if you want to link to your account on the web, you should use option 2 or 3. If you want others to add you as a contact, option 1 is the easiest.

ReplyDeleteCarsten Reckord Thanks for the tip ! I'm totally new to that diaspora platform, learning along the way.

ReplyDeleteJulian Bond Yes, that's annoying as hell. And no, I don't think you're doing anything wrong.
ReplyDeleteBill Brayman There's also https://pluspora.com/u/billbrayman.
The difference is more or less the following:
