Well, that's cool.
ReplyDeleteAny reports on how well it works?
OK, something to consider - MeWe gives you a certain amount of space for image and file storage for free, but charges you storage above that. If your posts are copied over, are your IMAGES copied as well. If you have hundreds of posts and images that can add up to more than expected, if that's the case.
ReplyDeleteLaura Ess Yes, in marketing terms it's called "Lock In."
ReplyDeleteJohn Lewis Well I'm more thinking about unexpected expense. You can have up to 8 GB free, after that you pay. However I might make a new post about storage issues.
ReplyDeleteLaura Ess Obviously MeWe is searching for a revenue stream from its users. They aren't getting money from other sources (ads)...
ReplyDeleteSo if it's pay for extra storage or pay for some other perk, but eventually, the goal is to convert free users to a higher tier paying customers at MeWe.
There's literally no other way for them to stay funded.
John Lewis That's true. You can dodge those charges though, for now, by having less than 8GB of files uploaded. It's worth pointing out that Google has a similar model for storage, though it's less apparent. You can have up to 15 GB for free on Google, but that's for ALL your google services, including GPhoto. After that, they charge at (in Australian $ because that's where I live):
ReplyDeleteup to 100 GB - A$2.49/month
up to 200 GB - A$4.39/month
Which is a LOT cheaper than MeWe.
