Fotocommunity.com is a website for photographers, with a sleek interface and ability to categorise photos according to the subject. It allows following specific photographers, and offers suggestions based on interests. It also displays all EXIF information.
It also allows discussions and C&C on the uploaded photos. However, it runs on a subscription model, with free usage restricted to upload of one photo per week, and maximum storage of a grand total of ten photos.
It has various other plans, ranging from EUR 4 pm to EUR 15 pm. The most useful is the World plan. However, there is a major downside.
I'm an amateur photographer from the 3rd World. I can't afford fotocommunity.com's monthly subscription plan (8 euros per month, 30 photos per week), by miles.
There has to be something better than this.
Of course, the community of photographers on fotocommunity.com is great, but I am sure I will not be able to find anyone from around me over there. It is also mostly a showcase, not meant for discussions beyond the specific photo, while I need something that's more of a forum, and yet offers personal space.

Es gibt weltweit Menschen, die nicht viel Geld haben!
Wenn man beispielsweise in Deutschland lebt und einen Mindeststundenlohn von unter €10,00 bekommt, dann kann man sich derartigen Luxus auch nicht erlauben.
Übrigens sind € 8,00 pro Monat, 30 Fotos pro Woche also € 96,00 im Jahr, bei fotocommunity.
Da ist das Flickr Pro Konto, mit $49,99 jährlich und völlig unbegrenzt, ja ein reines Schnäppchen!!!

Andi Droid you're right! Of course, with the EUR 16/month account, you get Lightroom CC (with annual subscription only), but I don't use it.

Ja!, natürlich will jeder nur seine ,,besten" Bilder zeigen, Filip H.F. Slagter !!
Aber Unterschiedliche Leute stehen auf unterschiedlichen Stufen ihrer eigenen ,,Kunst".
Ich selbst mache zum Beispiel Foto & Kunst, deshalb benötige ich eine Plattform, auf der beides ist.
Ebenso denke ich, dass es für gute Fotografen und Künstler nur von Vorteil zur Entwicklung der eigenen Kreativität ist, wenn sie sich gegenseitig Austauschen können.
In der kurzen Zeit auf Flickr habe ich den Eindruck gewonnen... Viele bewegen sich bedauerlicherweise nur in ihren eigenen Nischen.
Das erzeugt dann nur immer gleichbleibende Bilder.
Vielleicht verbessert sich im Laufe der Zeit die Qualität der Fotos, aber insgesamt bleibt es ziemlich eintönig.
Hier auf G+ gibt es Community's mit Foto & Kunst. Auch werden diese Community's gut moderiert und unangebrachte Bilder werden entfernt. So können die Fotografen & Künstler sich gegenseitig inspirieren und in ihrer Kunst besser werden.
Die Inspiration funktioniert innerhalb dieser Gruppen und durch freie Beweglichkeit nach außen. Also in einer Art offenem System.
Es ist sehr traurig, dass das jetzt mit dem ,,G+ Aus" zerstört wird.
Denn bisher sehe ich noch nicht, dass es irgendwo gleichwertige Gruppen, in dieser Qualität und in vergleichbarem Bewegungsrahmen [gleichzeitig geschützt und dennoch auch offen nach außen] gibt.
Und durch das offiziell angekündigte ,,G+ Aus", scheint es nun zukünftig zu immer mehr ,,Bezahl~Modellen" zu kommen.
Dadurch werden zukünftig viele Menschen ausgegrenzt!!!
Mir scheint es, als würde zukünftig im Internet passieren, was schon in der realen Welt vorangetrieben wurde... Das entstehen einer neuen Zweiklassengesellschaft.
Eine Tragödie einerseits und sozialer Zündstoff andererseits!! Schlechte Zeiten... :-/

ReplyDeleteThat chick is cute... BTW I'm in the same situation here so I can not pay for a social media. I'm still thinking about going back to DeviantArt for whole of my social media thing. Facebook is for family, Twitter is dying and Instagram is all about vanity, fakeness and follow/unfollow people.
ReplyDeleteNishit Dave Given that services cost money, one possible alternative is for platforms to provide for users sponsoring other users.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how well this would work out, but if the average cost is, say, €4/mo, but a user could pay, say, €8 to pay for both themselves and one other user, that might be an option. That sponsorship might be specifically dedicated, or might be a general "pay toward the services of X other users" and pro-rated accordingly. There's the question of how to allocate the excess as well, with several options being available.
The more I look at the general "how to break up social media" problem, the more financing seems a major component.
Edward Morbius I don't think we are so altruistic as a species. Professional photographers may be able to afford such fees, but others have no option but to sell their own data.
