Has anyone reached out to Alois Bělaška about https://friendsplus.me possibly helping out with data extraction from Google+ and putting it into another platform?

  1. Not AFAIK. Do you have a contact / goal?

    I strongly encourage doing this.

  2. I asked about MeWe, Diaspora, and Mastodon support, and Alois said:
Almost no reasonable G+ alternative offer an API, MeWe and Diaspora are no exception. We’ll have to wait for these two but we should be able to come up with Mastodon support in upcoming months. Stay tuned!

  4. hey wara zashi we’ve been waiting for google to present some new api or simply something better than takeout that would make it possible to migrate content from G+ but so far nothing.

It’s really frustrating even for us.

We hoped Google can do better but...

Nevertheless we will come up with some solution to this situation and help G+ users to migrate their content, I am sure of it.

  5. Alois Bělaška My hopes of Google producing anything are falling rapidly as we've hit and passed the one-month mark with no comment from them, not even an acknowledgment of inquiries.. My guidance now is plan for no additional Google assistance.

    Double-takes on name.

    Oh, you! Thanks.

  6. Alois Bělaška Further notes:

Tim Berners-Lee is developing a G+ Data Takeout import tool for Solid, code at GitHub.

Filip H.F. Slagter has been working on a jq library for the extract as well.

Several elements of the problem are:

    1. Google's advice on creating a data archive are poor -- they don't specify what elements to select or what options to select for them.

    2. The archives are incomplete, especially for Communities.

    3. There are privacy concerns, a point I've raised and really want Google to address.

    4. The data included and metadata descriptions could be improved. Slagter knows much more on this than I do.

  8. Alois Bělaška Thank you for the update! Looking forward to seeing what F+Me can come up with. By the way, I love the service, it's been a great way to us G+ as my source and post to other networks.

I know it wont preserve comments, but even being able to move all posts to the queue and send it to somewhere like Tumblr, Medium, Wordpress, even Blogger might be enough for most people to feel like their work was preserved.

Though looking forward to Solid, Mastadon, Diaspora, and Hubzilla support too :).

  9. wara zashi good news!

We've released Google+ Exporter, an application that helps you to export your Google+ feeds (profile, pages, collections, communities, including all comments) to Wordpress eXtended RSS file.

Another available option is to export all posts published to profile, pages, collections, and communities to JSON file, including all comments!

Transform exported JSON data can into imports for other services, or you can use JSON export as a full generic backup of your posts.

The free version of the application enables you to export up to 3000 posts. You can buy a license key to get unlimited experience.

I would love to know your opinion, suggestions or requests. Thank you!

You can find more detailed info in the blog post
