Is it just me? The more posts I see from people proclaiming their love for MeWe, and urging everyone to get onto MeWe right away, the more I dislike MeWe. And I've been on there for years.
Selina Kyle Well, first because it's a walled garden. It's like watching all these people file happily onto the spaceship, completely oblivious to the fact that it could be a cookbook.
If MeWe goes down or the owner decides to sell out, they're all totally screwed. I hate seeing that happen.
Also, I've never been one to go along with the crowd. When glassy-eyed people start urging me to join them in praise of MeWe, my first instinct is to turn and run. I'm an early adopter from way back. I've been burned time and time again. I don't trust the "next greatest thing", because there's always a catch.
I consider my centralized accounts like Twitter, FB, MeWe, Discord to be temp places akin to work, school, gym, etc. I am making my home in the federated space where I am in control of my existence and never have to start over with contacts.
Totally with you. I have the feeling of a sect, like Jehovah's witnesses: "Do you have a moment to hear about our Lord and Savior Mewe? ". And that idiot ravished smile on the face.
Seems to me, if you don't like MeWe or whatever platform, it's a clue you should close your account and go somewhere else. Talking about it won't change the fact that you don't like it.
I believe as I posted before that there is no need to choose just one alternative to G+ and there is still plenty of time before G+ goes away. Make your transition suit you.
Definitely not just you. The MeWe crowd seems so set on zealous evangelising, it almost feels like they are either paid to do so, or feel the cult-like need to pull others in as well to validate their choice. I think what irks me the most is how most of the endorsement posts don't contain objective arguments to why it's so great, or acknowledgement of shortcomings. It all sounds so... utopian... and if there's one thing I want to stay far away from, is a walled-garden which proclaims to be a Utopia...
Peter Maranci >" I don't trust the "next greatest thing", because there's always a catch."
After G+, I think that speaks for most of us! Especially if it is a much-hyped Google initiative. At Google, even those of us with short memories observe a definite pattern of untrustworthy behavior. Every breathless Google introduction is backed by...hot air.
I erroneously marked this thread for deletion because I made an assumption regarding the intent of the opening post.
In replying, please keep in mind that this forum should focus on helping people make a decision regarding if and how to migrate to other services before Google+ ends operation. We strive to avoid talking about people (individually or by group) and instead focus on either personal experiences (your opinions) or features of services (facts that can be verified.)
I'll assume further discussion regarding MeWe on this thread will continue with these ideas in mind.
Thanks everyone and I'm sorry for my mistake and thank Peter Maranci for being understanding.
Sidonator private but noisy enough with groups and chats and constant notifications oh my!!!! Deleted the app. I find open source Mastadon much like google but more versitle. 🌹🙋🏻
Mia Dees Haha. Yes, MeWe will blow up your phone with notifications until you turn them off one by one. Each group you join has four controls. I belong to about 20 groups so that's about 80 notification settings I've had to turn off, one by one.
Phillip Landmeier lol i did turn them off but by individual group its still too "too" too many places to go and since people are using groups incessantly its overkill. I want to support my friends but each one has to create like 10 groups EACH !🤦🏻♀️lol
Mia Dees I hear you. I have a couple of friends who create groups like crazy. One has created over a hundred and he invites everyone to join each one. I don't understand the reasoning. I'm considering dropping him as a contact because it borders on spam. But my MeWe app is well behaved now and I focus mainly on just two groups plus my main feed.
Phillip Landmeier thats same here. Everyone has their own feed in addition to these groups!!! Group posts not incorporated into ones feed , so you have to visit each group!! I don't have that much of an exciting life but i sure as heck ain't spending all day on different pages to post!!! Lol have varied interests like my personality, i like to stay true and post on a single feed. I feel "stressed" like i don't have control of my own time when i sign on.. i have over 3-400 notifications or more!! Like mewe is a needy boyfriend and I can't relax 😎 😂
Phillip Landmeier Filip H.F. Slagter Like a friend put it so well when describing his impression of MeWe: it's like a bunch if teenagers running around talking all day. 🌹✌🏻

Why do you dislike it?
ReplyDeleteSocial network only work if people are there so they are thinking it has potential but needs people to shine

Peter I am with you. I have a MeWe account but get turned off by the spamming.
ReplyDeleteI don't like it either

Wow. You people need a life. It's a social media platform... That's all...
ReplyDeleteMeWe doesn't do video, but it does do right wing trolls.
ReplyDeleteRichard Anderson is there any social media service that doesn't?
ReplyDeleteJosé Pedro Paula why did Google mark this as spam?
ReplyDeleteDavid Noble if you feel that way, why are you in this group?
ReplyDeleteFilip H.F. Slagter Because that's when they break out the Kool-Aid.
