I've been asked to add the following to this post...
Google+ Community Export: Posts and photos
Not explicitly, but it was included in the overview of the announcement by Edward Morbius , as well as mentioned by me in the reshare of my own thoughts on the Jan 30th announcement :)
ReplyDeletePersonally I think it's worth repeating though.
There are some things not clear to me about it though, or that are at least worth considering:
• The notice at the bottom makes a point to mention public communities, so I'm guessing that this won't apply to private communities, which imho is a strange decision.
• It also explicitly mentions the GDT for a community is only available to moderators and owners, which imho is a disappointing choice. There are definitely communities, including this one, where I would love to have a full backup of.
• The time-window is very short (though perhaps not as short as that one Blogger owners are currently struggling with, with regards to the Google+ Comments on the blog posts, which is basically Jan 30th to Feb 4th!), especially since we don't know how 'early' in March it will be. I wouldn't put it past Google to mean something like the 15th with 'early'... We also have to hope that they get the export functionality right from the start, as there will be little time left for them to fix it if data is missing from the archives, or if those archives end up being excessively large again.
