G+ data takeout doesn't seem to show the progress bar anymore. I remember the progress bar was still there yesterday showing "less than 1MB". This is the first time I'm seeing this, considering I've done this more than 5 times since December. And this most recent takeout I'm doing for my community is also taking quite a long time (I think I started 2 or 3 days ago) although I selected only one community that contains only a few hundreds of posts.
I'm impressed that Google are admitting that the archive might take hours to days to create. I've been advising people of that myself.
ReplyDeletePlan ahead, be patient, and consider using the Friends+Me Google+ Exporter as an alternative or backup.
Edward Morbius This isn't really in my plan but I'd like to give LifeCloud community importer a try. I already have backup done several times with G+ Exporter (once every 2 or 3 versions came out) but I'm not sure if the exported file would work with LifeCloud. Since LifeCloud importer was designed to take the official takeout I'll try this one first.

ReplyDeleteThere's a backlog, and I imagine that the progress bar is correct, in that you're in a queue and it hasn't started yet Halfey Halphstein
ReplyDeleteGoogle are aware of this, and have taken steps to increase the resources available. The backlog is clearing (gradually).
I also expect that your download window starts from the time you get the email to say your export is complete, rather than from the day you start it (that's my guess, rather than known fact).

Julie Wills I honestly don't want to turn this into an argument but the issue is not about when the download starts. I've done this many times, I know there's always a delay, sometimes it took a couple of weeks (from my experience) and I am already very aware that the 7-day download link expiration countdown starts from the moment I am notified about the takeout is ready.
