Hello moderators. Can you please ban the constant MeWe advertisement? It is annoying and highly redundant. Thank you.

  1. Not to mention the whole "making hate groups a 'free speech' protected class" thing. And oh, the smarm their remaining founder exudes while he's bobbing and weaving trying to avoid discussing that - it's like he can only communicate through a boilerplate marketing bot! 🙄

[E: link to where he does that, on his own post: https://plus.google.com/104058007020511921292/posts/XRcBiALnWbo]

"They'll be able to do it for free," he didn't add.

  4. can we ban the conspiracy bait post right here?

  5. Why are there so many censorship-happy libtards on here?

    ReplyDelete
  6. See? Collective Conciousness did it right. He insulted everyone (not just Jews like he normally does) without being a hypocrite. He absolutely should be a villain in the first Captain America movie, but at least he can read. Christof Harper however responded to a thread about censorship by suggesting censorship. He could have avoided that if he just read the comments. Christof, a quick glance at your page shows you're a smart cookie! But this time.. you were lazy.

  7. There's a lot more wrong with MeWe than the politics. The interface sucks and the layout is unusable for me. We don't need more adverts for MeWe here: people who're going to use it are on it by now, and those of us who don't want to or can't don't need more adverts. They won't change our minds and have become annoying. I don't see how this post is "conspiracy bait".

  8. Well, the post attracted alt-rights that I could block, so it at least was effective as a honeypot ... ;)

  9. stefan holzhauer Yeah! Good point… :-)

  10. Can we also ban all the vitriolic commenters in this post? Those repeated responses are about as helpful as the mindless posts people make as well.

    ReplyDelete
  11. wara zashi I block the vitriol. Ain't nobody got time for that.

  12. You have the ability to block anyone you like.

The community will not block people from describing their experience on any platform.

Simple links to any service or posts which state "Go use service X" are not considered useful. We attempt to remove or reform them as quickly as we find them. Please feel free to identify them when you see them, we are busy admins and this community is about 500 times the size I originally intended it to be. Mea Culpa.

In short, help us help you.

  13. Id did not mean people who describe their experience on a platform, what I did mean, however were the constant oneliners saying "go to MeWe" with a Link to MeWe. That is not constructive, that is just annyoing, as those posts do not add anything new and deliver no meaningful content.

  14. stefan holzhauer We have been changing treatment of site-and-platform posts generally.

If the content is effectively "here's where to find me", we're reclassifying the post as "Contact Information".

If the post is just a link (or image) drop for a platform, we're requesting it be resubmitted with a substantive argument for why it should be seriously considered. Most particularly, with only 53 days remaining before Google+ is shut down. People really should already have made their choices.

That said, we don't catch everything, and as John Lewis said, pinging the mods (him, myself, Cindy Brown, and Filip H.F. Slagter are the primary active ones) should result in actions, if appropriate.

    Thanks.

  15. Bryan Ruby Unfortunately, the problems on MeWe are not improved - in fact, after talking with their founder on G+, they're worse than ever. (Apparently they're tweaking their search to stop it returning hits on hate speech terms now?) I'm not going to stop warning people about that while G+ exists, and probably afterwards as well.

  16. Greg X tweaking their search? Greenwashing? Whitewashing?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Diana Studer Hatewashing? The only reason I could see them doing this would be to keep people from discovering the hate groups they're retaining and protecting as "free speech."

    ReplyDelete
  18. Greg X The search tweak may be a false report.

    Update: See below.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Edward Morbius What's that? No, they are shouting about it, at least the iOS version, in their "News and Updates" group.

"UPDATE: New "Search" Live Next Week on MeWe's iOS App"

"...if you are an iOS user you may notice that MeWe's excellent "Search" feature is temporarily missing. We removed it because the Apple Store reviewers used it relentlessly for hours and hours to uncover any content on MeWe that gave them an excuse to keep us out - they rejected us for content that would at most have been rated PG in a movie theatre, and we're listed as 17+ in their Store!"

"...No worries, we're the good guys, doing the right thing, in this case protecting our members from unsavory content if you don't want to see it. And our TOS is clear about what is and is not permissible on MeWe! So we've taken the opportunity to make MeWe's "Smart Search" feature much better and also cleaned up our Open Group Directory, removing any TOS violators. The updated Search feature is in final testing and we expect it to be back in the Store next week - better than ever."
    [emphasis mine]

I don't know if this URL works for someone not signed into MeWe, but: https://mewe.com/group/55f9dd29e4b050c69e693558

  20. Greg X Wow. Just amazing.

So they get blocked on Apple because the Apple testers were able to find TOS violations with basic search and browse functionality so we'll just remove those functions and the app will pass Apple's review?

    ReplyDelete
  21. John Lewis Indeed. I wonder if there's some way to bring that to Apple's attention...?
