  1. There is no one answer, there will be no one answer:

    The Exodus
5.1 Q: Where will the Google+ users be moving to?
    5.2 Q: Why won't there be a consensus?
5.3 Q: When will destinations be decided?
5.4 Q: What do you mean by "commitments"? What authority do you have?
5.5 Q: What are the options?
    5.6 Q: How should I/we choose?

  2. I have a blog (stevedisque.wordpress.com) and a somewhat related Instagram (@stevedisque). I'm keeping Diaspora/Pluspora in mind, to investigate down the pike.

  3. Where is everyone going? To the places where they feel most comfortable. Since there's nothing quite like G+, many are making different choices.

  4. 5.7 (nod to Edward Morbius) Read the above and the 1000's of other comments on these exact questions.

Short version: Same as "where are people going in life?" No one answer. There is no "everyone". IMM, like Old World to New World "migration", there are challenges, some have "family" in the New World, others are seeking a better place, or mere survival.

It's just that there is so, so, much already said, and those that have not left are already packed or packing. Or resigned.

Needs vary. Goals vary. Connection to this "old world": for some it's everything, for others casual. Some have existing blogs or collections or active lives within communities; some, same as FB or Twitter, share music or art or photos. Cats & memes too. Many are already active elsewhere - like Flickr or Instagram for photography, Telegram or MeWe for chat, Twitter to promote...

And the biggie: No one place is going to accommodate everyone's needs or offer it all in one place, from chat to publicly searchable posting, to Collections and Communities, Nothing is G+. Yes, there is still Facebook for many, while some who would never go there are going to the Federation pods (many from G+ to Pluspora), many to MeWe* (*see much buzz about the good, bad & ugly of this). Many already have "2nd homes" elsewhere. It's a big world.

So the "freakout" began a long time ago, and some have been busy with saving/ moving G+ data, others sending signal flares (goodbyes and forwarding info), many others busy exploring new options and checking with important figures in their lives "here" as to where to look to keep connected in the New World.

If you're just beginning to freak, it's past time to get busy. Don't mean to sound snarky here, but this is the end, not the beginning of the end. Many of us now have temporary or new homes, maybe trying a few to make up for the one G+. Not that we are happy about the demise, but the sooner you have your "walking feet" in some new destination, having a few contacts, learning formatting, finding photo groups if that's your thing, or G+ groups/ members who have migrated but are still alive & well. The sooner the boat sails and lands, the less of a blow "the final curtain" will be, as sad and infuriating as it may be for many. In new homes.

I will suggest, if you are going to consider the main communities attracting a large number of G+ refugees, if you haven't done so, open an account or two (careful to be selective, as you have a clean slate, privacy-wise). And check the "Google+ Immigrant" and refugee groups, which are big, growing, and welcoming. Many of us are old-timers here but elsewhere we are newbies, learning and driving some changes too. Soon we will be the veterans welcoming still more new immigrants to the New World beyond G+. Don't freak. Adapt. Best luck!

  5. Also note that G Suite users and G Suite owned communities aren't going anywhere. We're staying right here. But, the focus and needs of G Suite users are mainly around G Suite itself, so that's unlikely an option for non-G Suite users.

  6. Soo... none of you are going to MeWe??

  8. Michael Fenichel Geez.. You really had to inject philosophy into this? lol. It's appreciated though.
I really haven't had much time this year to get on G plus and now I'm having some bad health issues so its hard to keep track of everyone.

  9. Kim Nilsson can you put that in terms I might understand?

  10. Kylo Ken Oh, I get that. The reason I started an IG was that I needed to promote my blog - nowadays, you have to do that, or no one will notice - and I'd ruled out F******k and Twitter for various reasons. The photos on my IG are strictly covers of books and records I'm discussing, or the concert halls and such where I've attended events. The only personal picture is my Profile shot!

  11. Steve Vasta Yeah, thats true lol. Everyones on there and its annoying because I don't want that app on my device and seems like the best way to get it to function. I might eventually give in and just jive on IG but I signed up and made an account on MeWe, so we'll see how that goes. It seems like a pretty decent set up but not too many people there. There might be some bugs but I have encountered them yet. Some of the design could use some improvements but other than that it seems ok for now.
IG does have a good place to promote yourself so that seems nice. I just wish there was something else out there that all google plus-ers could go to and reorganize.

  12. Kylo Ken I suspect I'll go to PashPost, eventually. I've downloaded someone's simple instructions for the Diaspora network, but it still sounds awfully complicated to me.
