OT a bit, but related to YouTube's delinking - a tiny (small d) detail I've noticed. I'm a YouTube "creator" and on my main page I see something new. To me it's a sign of their backwards-cutting loose all links to G+.

On the upper right, as always there is a Google tic-tac-toe thing. On G+ one option has always been G+ home. On YouTube it's now entirely separated from G+ and the 3x3 grid leads to only YouTube creator options. (No sharing, no G+) However there's now something tiny/new (I think) in the banner, a small G+ icon, nearly invisible. lower right. Click on that and it takes me to my main G+ page. Something's different, probably means nothing, certainly YouTube users won't mind (mostly).

Just feels to me like they've already cut the main feeds in/out and temporarily connected them together with a tiny icon which will simply be ripped away soon.

Screenshot one is the right side of my YouTube banner, with the now-tiny G+ logo. Screenshot two is the dropdown from the grid. I can't say if this is new or not, as I've not tapped into those things, but for sure G+ is no longer "the elephant in the vroom". :)) sorry, reference to a joke about consensus elsewhere.

  1. Not surprising, really.

I've noticed through this sunsetting, YT has added some features I've yet to explore. Namely, the new messaging feature.

Beyond this, as a monolith of a social site that has rarely been mentioned here, I can see more features being added as Google moves to continue improving on creator features.

Of course, there's any number of greater restrictions being implemented with monitization, along with how channels are featured...or not featured due to content, wording etc.

  2. Agree. And good point btw on messaging. Relevant for emigres, in that some with whom we may be connected are regular viewers/sharers of YT vids, but otherwise were not big fans of G+ for other things beyond within-circle messaging. I was surprised to see messages coming in via YouTube from friends/contacts who remain active there and don't really care about the "social" part of G+, except maybe for staying in touch with some odd birds like us who have continued to enjoy our home here, even amid disrepair and neglect. Forward...
