Memory Lane: The Google Create program's Perks, revised 17 April 19

(c) Google/Alphabet

The Google+ Create Program offered creators
many opportunities to interact with Google+ staff.

Below is a sample of some of the benefits of the program, derived from the original description of the program.

A comprehensive list of each benefit the Create Program offered you
Last Updated On: June 25, 2018. PROGRAM DISCONTINUED.

The Create Program is gone. We are [no longer] working on finding the best ways to increase your
content visibility and get you the audience you deserve. [Do not] share your constructive
thoughts and feedback in the "Create, Google+ and Beyond" section,
or email plus-create-team@google.com directly.

Shape Google+

Influence the next set of Google+ features, and see how other communities

Early Access Community
In our Early Access program, we work[ed] closely with a small group of testers who [were] passionate
about Google+ products and want[ed] to help shape the future of the platform.
By joining Google+ Early Access, you [had] the chance to test our new features
and give your feedback directly to the Google+ team in a private Community of other Trusted Testers.
This means that your account [was] whitelisted to give you access to features that hadn’t been
released to the public yet. We...announce[d] the early release of these features in a dedicated
Community for Early Access, and provide[d] a space to start a conversation about the features
including what’s working, what you liked or disliked, or what could use some more work.
...[Do not] send an email to plus-create-team@google.com and mention your interest for joining
the Early Access Community. This Community was very helpful. Until Google surprised its own
support staff with its closing announcement, this group was a principal reason G+ succeeded.

First in line

Enjoy priority consideration for your content being featured.

Your Content Reviewed in Priority
You may be wondering how your content is first in line to be featured to our users. Here is how
the magic happens: When you join Create, your content on Google+ is automatically pushed
to the front of the line to be reviewed for featuring in the Discover stream. We can’t wait to highlight
the amazing work you’re doing! My featured Collection grew to about 42,000 followers, while those
that were not featured only had about 4,000 or so.

Weekly Recaps
Each Friday, the weekly recap showcased your most inspiring collaborations and initiatives,
and summarized your most engaging conversations.

Discussion of the Week
We signed up to lead a Create Community discussion about creativity and using Google+ as a creator.
Discussion posts were pinned for one week and if relevant, a recap of that discussion,
featuring you and other participants, was featured on the Google+ page. Sign-up form.

Conversation
Post about random questions or discuss other topics with Create members.

Community Vanguards
G+ support staff officially introduced a new Create program: Community Vanguards.
Community Vanguards was a space for the top Community owners and moderators to collaborate,
share best practices, and support each other in running their Communities.
G+ staff lead collaboration between Vanguards and Create members on Google+
and beyond! If you were interested in joining or you knew others who might,
you were directed to the Community Vanguards FAQ and the application form.

Get noticed

We regularly featured top talent on Google's marketing channels, on the G+1 Page and Twitter.

Your Introduction Featured on the Google+ Page
Each Create member has a story to tell about the things they love to create.
This was your opportunity to be promoted on the Google+ Page as a reward for your work
and dedication. G+ staff wanted to help you improve your visibility and get the audience you deserve.

Get Featured Photos Priority Access
[Do not] add your name in this form and your eligible photos posted to Google+ would have been boosted to
the top of the review queue by the Featured Photos team — with a much better chance of being
featured on over 25m Chromecast devices, Google Fiber screens, phone/tablet wallpapers,
and other surfaces (more to come). Read about the criteria!

#g+winning
Celebrate your wins on Google+ with #g+winning! It can be about your Collections,
your followers, your friends anything related to Google+.

#ThatsAPlus
What started as an end-of-year hashtag has taken off as a way to celebrate
your amazing accomplishments throughout the year!
[Do not] share your favorite accomplishments on Google+ - post your celebration
and you might end up in the new Google+ Collection. Don't hesitate to help us
spread the word by sharing the official announcement!

#CreateConnections
[Do not] share your expertise across Google+ via a pinned post in our Collections community
(example here). A recap of your advice will [not] be shared to our main Google+ page.
If you’re interested in being a #CreateConnections expert, [do not] send Rachel Bakker a private post or
email her at rachelbakker@google.com. Rachel Bakker was among the most helpful of G+ staff,
which rotated through a number of Google employees over time.

Recommend Content to feature
As Create members you could recommend content to be featured on Google+
or on Google+ social media channels. Recommendation form.

Proud of being a Create member? Show it in your G+ cover-photo, download the logo.

Gain trust

Profile verification lets followers know you're really YOU.

Google+ Profile verified
After you join the Create Community, your profile got the official verification mark.

Get your Google+ Page verified!
One of your Create perks [was] to get a check mark next to your Google+ Profile.
That also counts for your active Google+ Page(s)! Your verification will become active
once you join the Community.

Discussion of the Week

Create members were encouraged to participate in discussions, rather than merely monitoring them. Google+ support staff posted this information to the Create Community:

HOW DISCUSSION OF THE WEEK WORK[ED]
[excerpts from original Google post]

"On your chosen date you will create a Discussion of the Week by posting it in the Create community. Your post will be pinned for one week and you will be encouraged to respond to any comments fellow Create members add to your post. The goal is to drive a vibrant dialogue. A recap of the discussion (featuring you and others in the conversation) may be featured on the Google+ page if you are comfortable having it promoted and if the conversation provides value to all of Google+.

"TOPIC IDEAS (no obligation to use these):
NOTE: you are welcomed to include an image of your latest creation
in your discussion posts!

- Share thoughts or tips about using Google+ as a creator or curator or expert and ask Create members' for their opinions
- Share knowledge about Google+ creativity, curation, or your area of expertise
- Ask how other creators or curators approach their work
- Ask fellow Create members for advice or inspiration
- Reach out to Create members to collaborate on your latest project ideas
- Are you a technologist? Start a discussion related to the creative process and technology"
