Personality-Life Outcome Findings Mostly Replicate

In a massive replication study of 78 findings from Psychological research, the Life Outcomes of Personality Replication (LOOPR) Project has found that 85% of these findings could be successfully replicated.

Given concerns in recent years over the replicability of scientific findings in a variety of fields, this finding comes as no small relief.

Additionally, some of the failures to replicate, or weaker results, obtained in their studies may have been due to some studies being not-quite-perfect replications of the originals. For example, some studies were longitudinal, collecting data over a longer period, or from different types of participant samples.

Nonetheless, some previously reported findings in the field also appear clearly to have been spurious based on these results, or less robust than previously believed, which in itself is a useful finding.
