This community was created with no particular purpose beyond its name and to be a place for people who remained after G+ was closed to consumers to find each other.

What do you think that means for content, moderation, and categories?

Comments

  1. A purpose could be helping people remaining on G+ to organize into a more useful group for each others - help find people and communities, as well as other resources, like organizations and individuals remaining on G+, that are interesting to them, and which they could potentially develop relationships with in the future.

    > What it means for content, moderation and categories:

That means, the content would have to be introspective, with focus on research on what's left on G+, on the remaining G+ resources (human, and non-human).

Categories may be among the lines:

    - User self-introductions. (Announcements of survival :)).
    - Yet another day on G+. (Sharing whatever comes to mind about G+.)
    - Discoveries about G Suite and Google plans.
    - Surviving public communities found.
    - Surviving notable users found.
    - Announcements of new communities formed.
    - Companies and organizations that use G+.
    - Projects known to utilize by G+ via LumApps.

(Would be good to introduce as need arises, and name succinctly).

Regarding the moderation, it would be great to have focus on the relationship of people with G+ (G Suite).

  2. I feel like most any type of content except for stuff like nudity, pornography, graphic violence, racism, etc... should be allowed. Basically, anything that would be allowed in casual mixed company in public.

I also feel that, if an individual over-shares (say, sharing ten posts to here in an hour), they should be encouraged to slow down their sharing, or have posts removed and perhaps ultimately be removed if they don't, because it's too easy for 1 person to potentially swamp the Stream and Notifications of Community members.

Otherwise, this is basically a huge lifeboat, and we should try to get along and share as freely as possible.

  3. That said, should we ultimately attract many more hundreds of users, then a narrowing of focus might make sense.

  4. All above points have merit, though as a fledgling community, I don't think it should be too prescriptive, and a 'general' community for all types of post, just not too many at one time from the same person...
As the community grows, which hopefully it will, the guidelines should be reviewed, and more categories may be required.
Couple of suggested categories for now:
    Introductions
    Links to focused Communities
    Tips and Help???
    General
    With perhaps:
    News
    Humour
Photos, if there is a need for increased 'noise' in this community, but I suspect these may well spin off to more focused communities.

Lastly, but by no means least, a prime guideline would be to respect the mods, owners and other members. If you can't respect the mods/owners, then it would probably be best to leave. For other members you can't respect, feel free to quietly block, be respectful that the community does not want to get involved or see your grievances or reasons for blocking.

  5. Since he is involved in the details of this discussion, I'd like to ping Skip Zalneraitis into this. Let me first say, glad to have you here, Skip! I hope our brief dust-up here won't dissuade you from participating.

I don't believe that you meant to cause an issue, so I'm not angry at you, and please don't take any offense from my suggestion that you slow your pace of Sharing. You're new to the Community, and you may have been overly excited at finding an outpost. As I said elsewhere, Share away! Just don't overdo it. Don't fire out a lot of Posts to here too quickly. You can end being the only person someone can see in their Stream, and some folks may have Community Notifications set up.

If you really wanted to share multiple news items of interest quickly, I'd suggest instead of making each one a separate Post, paste all the links into a single Post and Share that, instead.

Mindey I appreciate your contributions and presence in this Community, so don't misunderstand my tone or meaning, but you also really need to slow down a bit. You're clearly impatient to see certain things be codified and take specific form while this Community is still very nascent. And I see that impatience, as well, in rushing to Block Skip. I've checked, and although Skip did Share a bit too much too quickly, it did not persist for even half a day, and I did not see any effort made to politely point out Skip's mistake and ask him to take it easy with the sharing everything. We've got, realistically and despite the overall numbers this Community shows, fewer than 200 notably active people here. If you rush to Block/Eject one person, you can't count on many others to come and take their place, nor is this like the Classic+ where we were inundated with Spammers and it was understandable that we became quick to the jump if it appeared someone was Spamming. I'm not saying you should put up with someone dominating your Stream like that for very long, but perhaps leave a comment and wait to see their answer at least?

  6. I'd also like to second Rupert in saying I don't think Posts about Blocking people are appropriate. You have the right, of course, but it feels like stirring up a conflict. That may not be the intent, but it may end up the result nonetheless. Block away, Post about it to your Stream if you like. But I feel like we need to comport ourselves in here more like the Tibetan Community in Exile in India, i.e. the folks who have the Dalai Lama as their leader. They're permanent refugees in a foreign land, and the Lama has done everything he can to minimize conflict within their group, speaking out and occasionally declaring Edicts to put an end to hostilities between factions as necessary. They can't afford it, and I think neither can we.

  7. The purpose could still be there, with us posting anything that isn’t/wasn’t against Google+’s Terms of Service in the meantime, helping us get to know each other or whatever else.

  8. Eli Fennell thanks for the peace-keeping. I guess, I shouldn't have gone as far as to point exactly to the issues of concern, but equally how you're afraid to scare people because there are so few of us, I'm afraid that we might scare people off by making our community a source of spam. So, we have to keep a balance between these two risks. :) I think we all love to have a great community for each others, and discover what wonders remain here, because it's certainly less of the ordinary ones (I hope the most interesting ones!) that remain :)
