  1. Tragic, but I believe we can find a suitable replacement for G+ in the upcoming months.

  2. Pluspora isn't a 'offshoot' but rather an 'instance' of Diaspora. Offshoot makes it sound like there are fundamental differences between it and the base Diaspora* codebase.

Also, afaik by the time the forced YouTube integration was going on, the Real Name Policy had already been abolished, or at least you could create a Google+ Page for it with any name you want. I'm certain of the latter at least, as that's what I did with my FiXato page.
It might be that the Real Name Policy was still in effect when the integration was announced, but there was a fairly long period till the migration from a classic YouTube account to a G+ account was forced, a period during which you could continue to use your YouTube account, if you paid attention to which buttons you pressed.

  3. "Shuddering"??? - is there some hidden meaning to this that I am missing?

I have seen it used a few times in reference to Google's planned "sunset" of G+, and all I get from it is a shudder at its seeming "udder" stupidity.

Is it a nerd word for some technical business move? Or what?

Even "shuttering" - which is what I suspect is the intended word - seems silly, as its meaning is derived from a move made to defend a home and its windows from an approaching windstorm, not blow up the frigging house in ten months because of a storm that missed the house some time back.

This comment is written in mourning for all the similarly poor writing that we will all no longer have to suffer through here on G+ -

Which, no matter how humble, and no matter how dumb some of our "relatives", has been our home.

  4. Maybe it's a pun to how GPlus was a ghost town filled with *shudder ghosts? ;)
