For an anyone that's using mewe.

For an anyone that's using mewe. They give you 8gb/ month storage- how does that work exactly? I guess it just starts over every month? And if you need more you can buy it?

Comments

  1. It's not a monthly storage. Think dropbox or google drive.

  2. Okay, I'm reading in other articles it's 8gb/month, but I'm my seeing that on their site. I'd probably hit that fast, I bet. Damn, it was looking promising.

  3. 8 gigs is quite a bit that's like I don't know close to three or four thousand pictures I'm still looking into all this garbage still hoping that maybe Google will throw us a bone at the last minute say ah to hell with it and leave Gplus. maybe tack on a figure something like 5 or 10 bucks a month to use it keep it ad-free or hell even a dads doesn't really matter

  6. Don't Keep Pictures on MeWe!
    Use Links to them!
Links don't count against your 8GB storage.
    :)

  7. Andrew Hatchett now that's what's going to suck major balls the fact that you didn't have to have pictures all over the place on G plus you never going to have what we had and unfortunately was going to be very much missed having to put all your shit everywhere else which is very aggravating everything here was on G+ your communities your collections the whole nine yards now you have to put some shit over here and you take pictures all over the place and it's just going to suck. I may just stay with my YouTube channel name and worry about social media after that who knows things don't seem to get better it's really aggravating

If you've already got pics online then no need to move them- particularly if they are in Google Photos!

Just grab the URL and paste link in MeWe post - two mouse clicks (same as adding photo to a G+ post).

  9. Andrew Hatchett yeah, I figured that was an option. I'll do that.

  10. Andrew Hatchett I do most of my stuff I Android that's another thing that I like about G+ is a conveniency of doing so much not having to use a PC

  11. Open a photo in Google photos app. Hit the share button - create link and it's automatically copied. Paste in mewe post. Easy.

  12. Trucker Kev The Paid Tourist Even if Google wants $15/mon for it, I'd pay to stay. I would like though a sensible URL in exchange, though (our URLs are just too ugly to use elsewhere without URL shorteners).

  13. Shelenn Ayres That's for businesses. Fine if you're running a company, not fine if you're looking for a social media alternative. G+ for business is a fancy intranet service only.

  14. Kevyne Kicklighter not quite true... individuals can have a GSuite account and Google cloud blog posts stipulate they will get an improved G+ (GSuite users have been able to use the consumer G+ for some time now).

Do they enumerate exactly what will be improved about it?

  16. Andrew Hatchett I don't remember if there were details other than saying they would provide a migration tool and it would be an improved version. My point in posting the pricing model was to be informative. I have two G+ accounts for example and each has different followers for different reasons.

One of them may stay with Google on a 5 bucks a month account because the value (based on everything I get for that) is much higher than other competing services. With GSuite, I don't have to do anything other than use their migration tool when it is ready. But the primary value is storage and applications. Having a new improved G+ remains only a bonus feature with unknown impact. We don't know how many people will actually migrate away or move to GSuite (or possibly new users attracted to the new G+). This user also has a Twitter account that is fed from public G+ posts.

My primary social media presence on this account will be moving to the federated social web for a new home (already in transition) and has established accounts for specific outreach on MeWe and Discord for now that are not federated. This could change in the future depending on the targets for the content. Taking this approach is not unlike having a home plus a locker at a gym or a desk at work. Content I own can be in all three but targeted appropriately. It is really no different than the people who already have multiple accounts like G+, FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc. All that is happening now is some additional accounts possibly to hone content targeting.

When you think about it, the announcement is a blessing in disguise. There is no reason to choose one solution over another. I recommend taking a step back and thinking about how you use social media and why. For me, it was a wakeup call on who had control of my social media existence - and it wasn't me. Now, with a move of my home to the federated social web, I will have that control. Some of us are already working to improve usability and accessibility as well as make it more fun and integrated with Open Simulator grids. The impact has been quite positive!

  17. Shelenn Ayres Anything in writing about improved G+ for GSuite users?

Google Cloud is like AWS and with the same learning curve to use (great if a company wanting to expand their website, but not for hobbyists!!! The prices for that is like AWS ... too expensive for small sites/blogs. Only if you need a dedicated server, for example, can it justify it -- they have EVERYTHING an ENTERPRISE would need!).
