Hi everyone I found MeWe the most intresting social network till now It has so many options (ALMOST ALL OF THE OTHER NETWORKS & TELEGRAM FEATURES) with a nice interface I think it is a good choice to migrate
Just FYI, MeWe is sealed off from the rest of the internet in some ways. Posts there can't be shared, linked, or bookmarked; no one is ever going to be able to share a post that they like on MeWe with anyone on any other social media site (unless MeWe makes some fundamental changes, that is). Also, MeWe posts are invisible to search engines. No one will ever stumble across an old post of yours by searching on Google.
I've tried to get the CEO of MeWe to discuss those limitations, but he hasn't replied yet.
There is also a privage group called Haiku Nook which requires an invitation. This one is for workshopping for those of us who want to improv e our work prior to submitting to journals. If you want in on that Let me know so I can get you invited.
I do not like MeWe because they do not allow people outside of the group to see and view before becoming members. I also dislike their lack of support for sharing the content outside of their platform.
also, mewe pay features suck. when i made an account, the TOP TWO things it asked me to do was share what i was eating and share what i was watching. farking food posts?!? no thanks!
I've been on Mewe about a week, not having a public stream is annoying, to find people with similar interests you have to join loads of groups 😥 looking through the group directory is exhausting 😴
Abbie Stewart It would seem better to ask them why they want those permissions and work with them rather than sound the call that the sky is falling? Just because something asks for more permissions than they might need doesn't make the reasons behind the asking intrinsically unsafe or malicious.
Chuck Dee Go ahead. Give them permission to access your: - In-app purchases - Contacts - Location - SMS - Photo/Media/Files - Camera - Microphone - Wifi connection and information - Device ID and Call information
Might as well give them your credit card numbers too. Always be safe when installing mobile apps. Too many people have had their identity stolen plus everything else they know about you. Are you willing to take that risk?
Abbie Stewart None of that makes anything I said less true. I didnt say give it, I said engage with the developers. That's two different statements. Funny enough, I have it installed on my sandboxed tablet, and all of those permissions you can turn off; it has none of those permissions on my tablet, and never asked for them.
Margaret McEvoy Did I ever say that they should not in my post? Please, if anything I said could be interpreted as such, point it out. I will gladly update the connotations of my message if it could be misconstrued in that way.
I've never before been blocked just for having an opposing comment. I'd heard of it before, but... strange. I never spoke against her, just the opinions. Oh well.
Margaret McEvoy I'm not an advocate for nor against MeWe. I don't know enough about any of the platforms to say anything definitive yet. It just seems that a lot of people are spreading incorrect negative information (as I said, it seems that MeWe actually didn't even ask me to give those permissions- it has them in the permissions section, but all are turned off, and I never did so, and thought I'd checked them as usual after installing). It just seemed rather strange to post it as if the sky was falling, and wanted to post an opinion to leaven that attitude.
Everyone should be careful. But FUD isn't careful. Thanks, though!
Chuck Dee Generally I answer NO to any info ask and give my spam email. It is none if their business. I am not looking to meet new people per se My friends and I just need a cool stream to relax by and share. We have known each other for years having migrated to G+ from @johnwalkenbach ‘s J-Walk Blog. MeWe was not the right tool for that. Too many damn emojis also!
Margaret McEvoy Fair enough! I do the same... I use googles + subaddressing to filter. I have so many from signing up to so many platforms! If I start getting spam through one of them, I cut out the platform dead stop! I've given mewe no information about myself. I'm just currently using it because many communities that I use have chosen to migrate.
Personally, I wish that people would wait- 10 months is a long time, and I'm sure that other options will appear with G+ leaving the space. My favorite so far is diaspora*, but even it has its downsides as I see now- as I get more into it, I might figure out that they just do things in a different way.
But I just look at all of them as possible tools at the current point, and will select the one that appeals to me most. I should hope that everyone would be able to do that also!
Margaret McEvoy I really like Pluspora, and am there also. I just don't really know how to get around a lack of communities. The way that one person explained it to me, is that you can host your own pod as a community, but that seems like a poor substitute, since you have choose what pod you join, and then it's federated across the network.
But I'm going to try it and see- this will help to take a bit of the strain off of their hardware also. Not much, mind you, but I figure that if I'm not there, then one other person might be able to be hosted.
I really wish that they'd set up some way to support them.
Chuck Dee I built my stream by using an option provided for that allowed me to accept all the friends as soon as they send me a notification and add them to my stream. I published my moniker to my friends so only they knew to look for me. They did the same and slowly everyone is joining. I only see their posts and they mine.
Margaret McEvoy That works too... I have many communities and I want to communicate on different topics. It's the way that I met many people, so restricting it to people rather than topics doesn't work as well for me. I've also been trying Cake, and I do like the fact that you follow topics and conversations rather than people.

It has been pretty good. I have been on it for a couple of weeks.

Our haiku group is still trying to get used to Mewe but it's OK
ReplyDeletePeter Maranci sounds perfect
ReplyDeleteCraig Barratt I'm glad to hear it!
ReplyDeleteI'm not finding a haiku group on MeWe
ReplyDeleteLise Wal There is an open group called Haiku Seasons you can just join:
ReplyDeletemewe.com - MeWe: The best chat & group app with privacy you trust.
There is also a privage group called Haiku Nook which requires an invitation. This one is for workshopping for those of us who want to improv e our work prior to submitting to journals. If you want in on that Let me know so I can get you invited.
No thanks!

ReplyDeleteSo this is just a community within itself :/
But it has many useful features
I do not like MeWe because they do not allow people outside of the group to see and view before becoming members. I also dislike their lack of support for sharing the content outside of their platform.

ReplyDeleteFarhad Abdolian They've said that public posts are coming.
ReplyDeleteSusan Martin you don't have to answer those daft questions

ReplyDeleteIf you want to use the MeWe mobile app be careful. Check out the permissions they want. It's not safe. Don't install.

Are you willing to take that risk?
This is why I don't install such apps on my phone. It is ridiculous.

It's funny. I don't see any of Abbie Stewart's comments here now. Hmm. Were they moderated or removed?

Chuck Dee We seem to have settled at Pluspora. But a lot of us are hopping between here and there.
