There is no substitute to Google+

Are there any social Media platforms run by Publishing Houses (like NewsPapers, Magazines, bookPublishers etc), Please ?

  1. That would be perfect for newshounds, IF, it existed. Publishers are walled gardens, unfortunately.

  3. Hmm, there are a number of self publishing houses that let you create a (simple) website: Bravenewbooks is one of them and this is an example of that: bravenewbooks.nl - Kjell - Brave New Books - Succesvol zelf boek uitgeven

  11. Amazon's offerings look to be for self-publishers. It's not for the major print and TV stations (who operate their own sites, and thus, walled gardens).

G+ was nice that folks could engage with all the major newspapers and TV networks in one location. A newshound's joy -- and without pesky ads and commercials!

  12. Kevyne Kicklighter Indeed, we will never have something like G+ again, that's sad.

  13. Actually, there is, and I believe you should pay some attention:

The Austrian daily "Der Standard" (standard.at) runs a website that is quite designed to incite user interaction. Every single article has a forum for users to discuss, upvote, downvote comments, threads with actual threading (think usenet). This in itself has created a community and the newspaper has given them a forum to use outside of commenting to articles. You can follow persons, form circles, initiate 1to1 communication and it's all out in the open.

It helps that Der Standard" is considered a fairly lefty partisan by European standards, which I consider a good thing.

  15. Also, the New York Times has vivid discussion about pretty much every of their articles. Alas, they haven't given their active participants a place for gathering outside of article comments.

  16. Peter Lemken Can you explain to us how you start a thread and a profile page on these websites?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anton A I am afraid I can't, no. But: there are gazillions of knowledgeable IT guys out there that will help you once you have a message that has "open" in it and means it.

  18. If you are talking about the specific Austrian site, you'll have to register and you'll be given a thorough introduction of the website's community aspect.

  19. Peter Lemken Is it german only or does it have an english section? I do speak german but not as well as english to be honest.

  20. Anton A as well all other friends, Please
Is it not good for all if Google+ hands over to big houses with wings of Publishing Houses like Amazon ?
    Regards
