"Some may say Google+ was a bold experiment that never really took off, but I beg to differ.

In fact, since the Google+ shutdown was announced late last year, community members continue posting and sharing information, knowing the entire platform will not only shut down in less than two months but that Google+ is deleting all member assets.

By that metric, one could argue Google+ was more than successful in uniting people from all over the world to form online communities that connected authentically through their shared interests. Not only has it provided members the ability to create a network of like-minded individuals, but it has also taught them the skills to reassemble those communities on other platforms, and by default, inspired their resilience to do so. In creating a platform connecting millions of enthusiasts, the network was a success that is ready to be recreated, nurtured and built upon."

  1. Well put and thank you for your keen insight.

  2. Well said my friend and that is why this decision seems far more controversial to me then people are making it out to be. This is not some archaic Myspace downgrade, this is no less then Facebook pulling the plug, and we know that would cause riots in the street. Google is a tech giant and they are removing the free speech platform from their products. Even YouTube is more censored by the day as controllable monetization is keeping content in check. That goes against the notion of unbiased press and media. I wish Google would be so bold as to cancel this entire shutdown, rock the bells of freedom loud and proud! Do no harm, remember.

You folks....You wonderful, enthusiastic, brilliant folks.....

You are what made G+ such a special, almost utopian place for the cognitively enlightened.

Love you all. That is what Goggle fails to understand, or likewise is ambivalent towards.

    So very, very sad.

  5. Urmil Shroff Thanks for that. At least now I can be certain that my cave is at least as comprehensive, inclusive, and comforting as I perceived it to be. Three cheers for the brightest, most empathetic and enlightened folks that I have ever encountered. May you all lead lives of prosperity, good health, and boundless warm hugs. TNQ

  11. Don't dare to reload the page, because as long as only the AJAX part works, it is still working.

Google never understood its own creation, that's the problem. Connecting like-minded people for interaction and discussion is similar to Usenet, and companies have no ideas how to make money out of that.

The way Facebook works, by connecting people with celebrities, influencers, newspapers and other manipulative sources, money can flow in. The timeline is too full, people don't see your posts? Buy attention.

This all didn't and wouldn't work with Google+, where people control their timeline far more. Google+ tried a similar feature to push things into timelines, and it was annoying as hell, people disabled it, and lived happy until the end (which was a few hours ago; this here is the afterlife).

  13. Urmil Shroff I might agree with your example if I had been able to read past the first paragraph. But instead it only showed ads and no further story!

But I am very sorry to see G+ go. I waited until yesterday to write and post my goodbyes, mainly because I was not convinced that Google would actually go through with the shutdown. Look, we still are commenting, 1ding and even posting.

I have loved my time here as I am sure all of you have. Hopefully we all will find a place to land that suits our needs. Until then, See you soon!! 👋👋
