A right. Minds is coming up in rank for usability and experience now that it's added hashtags, which makes filtering easier. Honestly, though, it takes all three Pluspora, MeWe, and Minds to find anything at all with which to interact. They're all pretty vacant. Now, this may be because I'm just not active enough hitting them ~2x/day and I don't have many followers yet, but it all just seems dead by comparison to G+. Anyone having a different experience, please inform me on the how-to of finding pertinent content.
I have just started on Pluspora - the key is your list of hashtags; if you choose them wisely you will in no time have a well-populated stream, and then you can add back you G+ contacts - many have already moved or at least built a second home
ReplyDeleteChristian Frank I've got my hashtags picked. That's the thing, though. Pretty much with the hashtags I've chosen, I've got like maybe 5 new items a day show up.
ReplyDeleteMy pluspora is more active than G+ because I actively looked for people I recognize first, not just hashtags. Actually that’s what I did at first on G+ back in the Day.
ReplyDeleteUse the tags #newhere and #gplusrefugee to find the first posts of members. Then, once you start finding people look at their posts. When you see “likes” you can hover over those icons to find others. Same with comments.
My MeWe has been mostly dead for a year because I rarely find people from G+. You mostly have to join groups and look through group posts to find people. But many groups are cumbersome to join because it can be a day or more to get the Moderators to approve you. Then you can see what’s inside a group. You generally can’t see what a group is like, how active, or the members until you join them one by one.
Things are warming up on MeWe... More ex-G+ers are moving in and connecting and there are quite a lot of groups where there are new people, refugees from Facebook, for example.
ReplyDeleteIn the three days I have been on, I have joined 18 groups, reconnected with 11 old G+ friends and made five new friends with more invites for contact.
It's definitely getting better and the site is super easy to navigate.
Well, folks aren't connecting with me and I'm not finding them so I can request inclusion on their streams, so I guess once G+ is gone, that will be it for me and my G+ pals.
ReplyDeleteI second Melissa’s experience. I joined MeWe & connected with all the people I interact act daily with on G+ & it’s been great. Through them I’ve found other people & groups to connect with. It helps that the friends I’m connected to on G+ all moved over en masse...
ReplyDeleteDL Keur There's a username search feature that will call up entire lists from algorithms relating to any username that you know from G+. Simply scroll through and if you see a familiar name, click on it, if they seem familiar, you can send them a contacts invite.
ReplyDeleteOne special tip is that the vast majority of us who are migrating from G+ to MeWe are doing so in the names we used here and using the same main photo. I hope this helps.
On Mewe I have made 87 "contacts", almost all are people that I'm familiar with from Google plus. My interactions are high enough. I have made two communities, contribute a lot to one other, and am an admin in yet one other. That, I think, keeps me busy there.
ReplyDeleteI like MeWe better than Minds that way. I also like Mewe better because I can see who is liking posts and comments, which helps following like minded people, or so I can better know who I am following.
Melissa Barrett No. I will not go out and gather names like a squirrel gathering nuts. When I see someone on one of the platforms, I recognize, I try to connect. I'm not going to willy nilly start adding folks whose names I think I recognize, but who might or might not be the same person I know under that moniker. Plus, half of the contacts I have so far are using different screen names.
ReplyDeleteDL Keur Okay, I'm sorry if I have caused offence. It was not my intention.
ReplyDeleteBy all means, do whatever pleases you. 🙂
On the flip side, I can not find info on special characters for markup or info on how to post code/script without losing format or characters. I am talking about Mewe, of course.
ReplyDeleteI have over 250 contacts now and it is soaring. In my experience you need to get into communities first to see what people are talking about and from there add them to your contacts. Then check out their contacts etc.
ReplyDeleteSo far I've tracked down 84 plussers that I recognize. Some I found, some found me.

Minds isn't too bad ether
ReplyDeleteMelissa Barrett You haven't caused any offense. Hardly. I'm just not going to blindly try to guess who is who by a user name when there are, usually, ten Reed Smith's, twenty John Foresters, twelve Sarah Peters, etc.
ReplyDeleteThing is, I'm on Minds, MeWe, Pluspora, and a few more. And it's basically like playing craps.
ReplyDeleteDL Keur
ReplyDeleteLast week I joined MeWe, set my profile, created a selective group, and then made a short video for my G+ community members explaining Why ( to see if MeWe would be an acceptable replacement once the consumer G+ sunsets next August) and then shared both my contact link and link to ask to join my group.
Thus far, most of the active posters in my G+ community have joined my MeWe group and some have even started their own MW groups and invited me to join.
A survey of the group this morning about the suitability of MW as a home for my G+ community showed 50% thought it would be suitable and 50% thought it was too soon to tell. Not a single person thought it was unsuitable.
As to finding people on MeWe... I'm not trying to locate anyone at this point. I'll begin sharing my MeWe link to my G+ and Collections followers tomorrow. To me it is more about letting them easily find me rather than trying to locate them on a new platform.
I think I'm going to go with a different solution for myself. I'm working on it now. As to the alt platforms, I'll visit the three, Minds.com, MeWe, and Pluspora, but, honestly, it's just a splattercast if I connect with anyone I'm used to seeing on G+.
ReplyDeleteDL Keur If you like Religious Discussion group here on G+ we are moving over to MeWe. MeWe is just starting out and the communities are definitly not as sophisticated as they became on G+. Some are just memes with no discussion. I can't find you on MEWe.
ReplyDeletePhillip Landmeier I found that exact link earlier today. Thank you very much for sharing it though!
ReplyDeletePam Mitchell Thank you. I'm there. D. L. Keur. URL is ... mewe.com - MeWe: The best chat & group app with privacy you trust.
ReplyDeleteI will migrate to twitter from Google Plus for social networking...
ReplyDeleteTwitter seems tempting, but I'm not sure yet on it.
ReplyDeleteDon McCollough I use blogspot as host of my pictures and articles and twitter as social networking platform. It is very effective. I noticed people from twitter even visit my blog. I think Google will concentrate on developing its Blogspot Platform. Also you can find me on twitter at twitter.com - Dream Path GA (@DreamPath_GA) on Twitter
ReplyDeleteIgor Marinovsky Yeah, I'm just trying to settle on a place for my collections mainly.
ReplyDeleteDon McCollough I think blogspot is the best place for your collections. Google allows people to have unlimited number of images in the best quality on blogspot. And you can promote your collections on Twitter.
ReplyDeleteIgor Marinovsky That sounds like a nifty idea. I'll have to look into that and work on migrating them over. Thank you :)
