New contacts added to non-public Aspect/s (a.k.a Circles) on diaspora* will not see previous posts for the chosen Aspect/s.

  2. Any tips on how to use diaspora would be much appreciated. I created an account last night but couldn't figure out how to use the site.

  3. Melissa Barrett If you are into photography then forget it, try MeWe

  4. John Phillips Thank you for the suggestion, but I tried MeWe first and my email address got mistyped and now I can't access the account. Tried setting up another account only to get notification that my email address is already in use. Even though it is inaccurate.

  5. Melissa Barrett Look on the left of the page and you should see "Need help?" Expand that and you'll see links to tutorials and more. The tutorials are good and don't take long to read. They're here:

  6. Jeremy Morrow This is actually useful. I created an Aspect called Private. Anything I post there is only seen by me (and any nosy admin), so I can use it as a testbed for playing with markup, embedding, HTML, etc.

  7. Garry Knight Correct. It is a blessing and a curse.

The current view of the diaspora* core development team is that new users not being able to view old posts is an intentional security feature.

On the flip side, many users are frustrated by this.

If you are a new user, you cannot see older posts from friends and family. If you have already been using diaspora* for a while, you may have wasted a heap of time posting content that your new contacts will never be able to see.

For more information, this is being talked about here at the diaspora* discussions and support forum:
